Pic tax, meme I made about 2 years ago. Could just as easily say "reading the teks" instead of "flowhood." Both are pix of my actual plates, before and after flowhood and reading the teks. (I also take smaller transfers now, but still bigger than some people). Don't open this pic up and look full size if you're eating breakfast.

I like cutting giant transfer pieces from MS T2 plates that contain lots of sectors and tossing them in grain jars just to then watch it all fruit uniformly and nice with only slight variations.

No, I have tried two extracts so far. One was an unmarked batch from a local brew shop, the new one is Munton's Extra Light spraymalt which is the brand everyone sells.

The munton's came out like this (2%, 45mins @ 17-18psi)




Something's up, I'll get to the bottom of this one way or another.

nope, double trivet + spacers. I think the water came up to like a finger's width on the bottle.

This last bottle I'm cooking is completely out of the water, at the 3qt mark on the presto. You can imagine how much space there is between that and the bottom of the pc.

I've noticed the longer it sits in the PC, the more precipitates tend to form.  The medium should work fine, it's just unsightly to some.  I wouldn't let it bother me too much, but some folks will pre-boil their MEA and decant off of the precipitates for a clearer plate.

Not these ones, I let them cool in the PC overnight. But I've done it before, the boogers don't disappear. They kinda settle on the bottom so the last plates I pour are the most filthy.

Two different LME, 3 different brands of agar.

The latest LME is this one I mean that's as luxury as I can get.

This last bottle I'm cooking I let it come up to temp at medium heat and let it do at 15psi, no more (got that presto jiggly weight that's supposedly super duper accurate, more than the dial itself). It's also completely off the water.

I don't know what else to do at this point, am I supposed to throw healing crystals in there and dance around the cooker naked while chanting? Blood sacrifice?

Yeah I mean it works, but it's a bitch to look at especially the last plates. If I don't need them, I just leave them as control plates.

Also if you ever want to look at a plate under a microscope, well you better get good at recognizing boogers over anything else lol.

Tried pre-boiling, tried cold mixing, same shit. The only difference with the preboil is that you don't get the agar puck on the bottom but once you re-heat the bottle it just blends back together with no issue.

Don't mail me stuff cause then I'll just feel like an even bigger retard when it comes out all fucky fucky, at least like this I can still blame the ingredients lol

These are only T1 transfers from a germ plate, and not the most uniform but look clean.
Do any of these look worth or not worth putting to grain?

That middle T2 looks ok maybe to test on grain.

I wouldn't send any T1 to grain just as a precaution. Transfer all those T1 plates if you haven't already.

Ok so from my experience as a homebrewer of beer I have seen this many times. We brewers call it "hot break" just a little something I found about hot break online. Wort is malt extract (dme) and water...

One of the main steps in the brewing process involves boiling the wort for a certain amount of time, usually between 60 and 90 minutes, during which numerous things happen. In addition to driving off the DMS precursor and isomerizing alpha acids from hops, it’s during the boil a curious reaction takes place that is known to keep brewers on their toes.

As wort temperature rises, proteins and polyphenols that are naturally present in grains begin to clump together to form what brewers refer to as the hot break. Typically, the first signs of the hot break occur just before the a boil is reached, at which point a thick foamy cap develops atop the wort that, if left unchecked, can lead to a sticky boil-over. As the boil really gets going, this foam reintegrates into the wort and begins to coagulate into visibly large chunks, leading to the appearance of egg drop soup. When the boil is complete, these chunks fall out of solution, along with cold break material, to form a layer of kettle trub that can more readily be avoided when transferring to a fermentor.

It’s safe to say most brewers view hot break as a normal part of the brewing process and only focus on its removal once the boil is complete. However, there’s been some talk about the potential benefits of scooping the foamy substance off the wort at the beginning of the boil.
