You can do like 8 quarts+ with just the plate, or take a wedge and expand to LC and inoculate as many as you want. Or inoculate 1 wbs jar, let that colonize, and g2g like 12 off a single wedge.

Expansion is a game of “how much would you like,” not “how much can you do.”

A small piece from that dish could make a gallon of LC if you had the space and equipment.

Actually, I did knock up a LC jar today with the same APE6, just from a different plate.  All my APE6 plates are from one clone I took months ago.

The other day I didn't wait long enough for some freshly poured plates to cool and solidify, and noticed that the softness of the receiving agar is inversely proportional to the quality of the myc growth.

It goes like this:

1st transfer, transfer wedge got almost entirely buried in the agar. Atrocious growth.
2nd transfer, wedge stuck half into the agar. Bad growth.
3rd transfer, wedge a little bit submerged. So-so growth.
4th transfer, I let the plates cool completely. Normal growth.

I knew that myc grows much better and faster on the surface of the agar rather than through it, but I thought it would still manage to grow. Well I guess not.

You should let your plates cool down to room temp before using them my friend.

Unfortunately that plate contaminated some time ago. Guess I took one too many transfers from it, but once I get a flush from these, I'll get another clone. Maybe do a slant to keep it around. It's a game now to see how long I can keep it going.

Ah gotcha. Bummer. I try not to transfer away from clones anymore. Lost phenotypes without ever having the opportunity to see if I saved them in the first place because I straight up transferred to like T6 before running the tissue clone.

But there’s always more shrooms to save.

I've been wanting to post this for a while but haven't had time to sit down and go through it.
got some genetics from a buddy of mine, the cups below are both t2, ape & hp, in order.



I have been seeing weak, tomentose growth on alot of plates lately. Tried switching the agar recipe to see if I was missing anything.
These plates are:

500ml city tap
10g Briess LME
10g Fitlane agar-agar

Someone told me grain water can cause wispy uncertain growth like this, but I find these ape cups especially disconcerting and foul-looking for cube myc, so that was ousted.
Pictured next to it is hillbilly pumpkin, which doesn't look great either, but at least i see some willingness there.
I strongly feel it's not contaminants or bacteria, because I inoculated 10 of each at the same time, same SAB, same tools, within 30min. Every single ape cup looks exactly like the picture. Every single hillbilly cup looks exactly like that picture, no visible contam except for every ape cup looking like mold.
I would normally say "hey that looks like mold" if someone posted this, but I'm really confident it's a combination of genetics and conditions (including agar recipe)
When put to grain I firmly believe it will express totally different, as cube myc do.
Is the minerality or treatment of the water source at play here?
I am thinking about using RO or distilled water, in that order to see what works.
What do you guys think?

Based on the color I'd say it could be a Pseudomonas. The same stuff that forms this black biofilm on wet surfaces (like your shower).


That’s not good. I work at a hospital, so it’s likely multi drug resistant. I’m growing super bugs!
