What is 4x and t2 and all these other labels for what I suppose are similar to progeny in the gardening world?

The first plate that you put spores on is the germination plate. When you take a transfer to a new plate that second plate is T1. When you transfer to another new plate that plate is T2 and so on. I assume the 4x thing is similar.

I swiped the plates 3 days ago.

Yay!

I started second guessing myself because I saw a couple posts saying that bacteria can be white and fuzzy too.

Thank you!

bacteria can be white (but can be other colors), but is not usually fuzzy, is often shiny and looks wet.

Mold is often white at first until it drops spores and turns green or black (but can be other colors at the start), but is often fuzzy and white.

look at the article in my sig line, find the part "what it should and shouldn't look like at every stage".

Hell, I'll find it for you:

I´d tend to say mold can be white and fuzzy too.
Bacteria is usually slimy wet, and sets the base for further contams, like mold or else.
3 days after inoculation is rarely enough for good cube myc that size.

EDIT: Somehow Nektar´s post didn´t show up first :smirk:

Ah,that makes sense. I didn't realize bacteria doesn't get fuzzy. Oops.

I definitely grew my first bacteria on a couple plates and will toss them out today. They're definitely slimey looking and have an off white, sort of yellowish tint.

Is it a good or bad thing that the myc was this size at day 3?

Sweet. Will check this out right now.

I did my first and only grow a few years back with brf cakes and spawned to shoeboxes. I had zero contams and the whole grow was very successful. Fast forward to now, I tried brf cakes again with 3 year old mss syringes and experienced my first contam. White, fuzzy mold (which I never really noticed) that quickly turned green in all my jars.

I'm trying agar now and kind of paranoid every time I inspect my plates lol. Going to research more to familiarize myself with what is what. Thank you for the link.

That´s mold for my eyes.
I never had an inoculation plate showing healthy myc that size to transfer from
3 days after swabbing.

Let it sit a few days more to get used to the look of it.
It will possibly turn greenish from the center,
might be an indication you carried some penicillium or similar in.
Doesn´t look like from a swab i mean.
Did you streak the plates zig zag wise or else?

Appreciate the response brotha thank you!

I suppose I can now say I’ve completed my first set of T1’s! And I’m super proud b/c these transfers came from my very first batch of agar I ever made that i colonized with the first and only spore print I’ve ever made that I took from my very first flush of mushrooms I’ve ever grown!  So excited right now!

I think it’s pretty sweet how much easier it is to maintain genetics in perpetuity after your first initial purchase compared to botany. When I was growing weed I had to have an entire area dedicated to keeping clones of genetics I wanted to save and that gets pretty expensive to keep and maintain. Plus if you don’t plan on running those clones every run you’ve got to grow them out and take new clones every so often just to maintain. Not to mention the really special ones that you end up producing seeds of so you can guarantee it won’t be lost…:. Sorry about the tangent but this is so much easier and more fun too!

Okay, will do.

Come to think of it, this one might have been one of the few plates where I tried to place a drop of spore solution. Oops!

What are stones and what’s their relevance? Sorry, Google was no help but I’m stupid so I could be searching it incorrectly.

So I read the article and i understand how to produce stones now but it doesn’t explain the relevance? As far as I can tell it seems like a very long drawn out process to achieve fruiting bodies but why? Are they more potent, do you achieve new genetic expressions? What’s the purpose for producing stones?

They're just neat, really.

If you just wanna get high, yeah cubes are a quicker way of getting there. There's some nuances where people say stone trips are smoother but that's mostly on an individual basis. They're also an easy way to stealthily grow some psilocybin.

Have you checked all the other active species people grow on these forums? It's just a hobbying thing.

Edit: oh and they're legal in the Netherlands. Not even the "condoned" status like weed. Just flat out fully 100% legal!
