Tidal wave on 1% LME agar. Ready for grain once it matures a bit more?

That little bump has been there since the beginning. Pretty sure its not contam. They're T1 from germ

I would be weary of that bump. If you're taking this to grain, I'd exclude the part with the bump. I'd maybe go for a T2 before graining though.

It took almost 2 months for this swiped agar plate to show any type of growth!

Hopefully I’ll be able to see what RwTwc are looking like soon. I started these, some hillbilly and
ps. natalensis… stoked for new baby mushies of all kinds!

The little spot is the rwtwc and the other one is the nats.

I feel like I would have given up after a few weeks. Maybe.
Is that normal?
My TYC on on wbs agar started to germ in like a week or less.

How much agar did you put in the mix? Did you maybe boil down the mix in such a way that it ended up being too hard?

I did that recently and ended up with plates that took a looong time to show any growth.

I use a about 10-20 grams agar(stringy kind from Asian market) to 500ml water, tsp of light malt extract and a fat pinch of Nutritional yeast.

No idea if that is too hard or not. I know that I did 10g for 500ml but let the mix boil down to probably less than 400ml and those plates didn't grow any cube spores since 20/03/2023 (Natalensis spores did germinate though).

Is this contamination or just agar media discoloration?

I recently noticed that underneath the mycelium of all my Natalensis agar plates that have been growing super fast there is a brownish color. Not sure if it is bacteria. I noticed that this discoloring has the same color as the agar media I used without the blue food coloring (it's malt extract, agar and water).

Some pics to show what I'm talking about:

Germ plate:

T1 plates:

A T2 I recently made also showed the discoloration slightly in the center but it doesn't show well in photos

For reference, this is what the agar media looked like without food coloring:

This is the reason why I inherently dislike using food coloring. I still use food coloring btw :smile:
