Some of these guys have used the same blade for years. They were all black and half normal size. Kinda reminded me of a hockey stick that was real well used.
I remember those posts! Thats partly what inspired the back heating... I like messing with metal anyway, but to get a chance to heat stress something so intensely is kinda wild for me... im used to trying to avoid over heating... lol

Man I miss the days of well worn hockey sticks..Some of the new twigs on the market are $600+!! I go through about $800 of sticks a season just for a Beer and Pretzel Hockey League lol Covid didn't do the hockey world any favors though since 95% of the sticks were manufactured in Wuhan
Good to hear about the blades though. I was just wondering how often they get changed. I think I'm good for a while after my 10 SAB sessions though lol

And here I am changing my blade once a week.
I'm possibly over heating it between transfers which is why I feel the need to replace it so frequently.

I do that too especially with important cultures. It definitely seems to increase the amount of char that flakes off.

I feel like new blades are too smooth sometimes and make transfers more difficult than older ones but that's just me. There's a sweet spot for not too fucked but fucked enough

Poured some grain water plates today. I had saved some water from cooking red popcorn. The agar came out a little pink. Smells great.

Drag some fine sand paper on your new blades for that extra wedge gripping ability.

Oh good one AKA!
I just changed a blade because it would not cut cling wrap, it was dull as a butter knife. I'm thinking getting the blade glowing red is going a bit far...
At the beginning of a sesh I flame almost the entire scalpel. And no, I'm NOT using that hole yet until my regular sterile tek stabilizes.
Hey Roarkell with the work yer doing you deserve a cool scalpel like this one. feels good man

Most of my spore plates look just like that. Only thing I don’t really like is the shaving usually screws up the colony growth but it’s not a big deal.
Soft plates are the best.

Is it soft agar? I've noticed when I make mine softer the edges run under the agar for a bit creating a halo around. The bacteria I always get is oozy liquid.

APE plate starting to break out and ESS looking good. Might do more transfers from APE just to see what they'll do.
