Well what should someone look for if they want to clone more potent shrooms? Just the biggest ones that didn't open veil yet?

If you want more potent shrooms, make sure your shrooms are as healthy as possible, or go with species that are known to produce more psilocin / psilocybin. It doesn't really matter at which point you clone, because it's the same organism, the DNA doesn't change.

Fungi aren't like plants, as far as I know you can't really create cultivars through generations. And if you can, growing conditions and species will affect psilocybin content much more than trying to isolate a stronger variety.

I remember reading one lab analysis that showed the same organism can wildly vary in potency from flush to flush, in one example the second flush shrooms had twice the psilocybin content compared to the first flush.

You cant see potency. So you clone and test for potency or eat the mushroom you cloned
