Contamination can drive myc to pin.
Drop the pin on a fresh plate and see what happens.

They can still fruit: there have been lots of fruit from LOTS of bacterial spawn! Clone it!

Is it worth trying to clone if the mycelium around it is bacterial? What's the best procedure for doing a transfer of a pin? Try to cut just the pin or the underlying agar as well?

Personally, I would
- Drop the pin in distilled water for a few mins, to dilute any potential contams on the outside.
- Pat dry with clean iso soaked paper towel.
- Transfer pin to SAB with waiting plates.
- With gloved alcohol washed hands, tear the pin down the middle.
- Flame sterilize scalpel.
- Cut a piece of tissue from the sterile inside of the pin freshly exposed.
- Transfer piece to plate.
- Rinse and repeat.
- Wrap plates
- Wait and watch

So I got a fully colonized plate edge to edge. I wanna keep it going it’s my only one. Can I transfer from a section other than a leading edge? Or just start freshhhh

You can transfer from wherever you want but leading edges (should) be the most aggressive. Some people avoid the edges of a plate I think for fear of contaminants but if your plate is clean it's clean.

I'd give it a shot... rinse it, no need for alcohol, and transfer the whole pin to avoid fiddling it more than necessary

I was suggesting treating like a wild specimen. I guess a contaminated plate would be much cleaner?

Some t1 clone plates, first plate has a dark spot might be hard to see, and im not quite sure what it is, if its just from me not mixing my agar correctly, my thought is some contam i havent seen.
This is from another clone t1 made 2 1/2 days ago and i think looks the more promising of the two.
Thoughts?
Heres a close up of one of my plates just for shits and giggles

Hoping to get a print in the mail so I can transfer that big RW agar pin and start some plates of a fresh cube strain.

Pyrotek said: I found an old pastyplate that has started to pin. I was under the impression that this particular plate was contamintated. However, since it is starting to pin I am now wondering if I'm wrong. Can contaminated plates pin at all? The mycelium doesn't look all that healthy to me but I'm no expert.
Got any pics? Cloning pins I just drop the pin on an agar plate and wait.
The more handling the higher likelihood of contamination....just gotta be ready to do some transfer to get a cleaner sample

Looks like it to me as well...If it's mold it'll be about 3xs that size in 24 hours
