I'm about to receive some cultures on agar but aren't sure how best to preserve them before I inoculate some grain jars.

Should I do some agar-to-agar transfers first and preserve some and use the others to inoculate from?

Nice looking APE Nowheremans. All the APE I've done always look like snowflakes.

Then there's these T1's..

First bit of growth from wild spores to agar. This is a little under 3 full days growth. Thought I should transfer strong sections after a week, but should I consider transferring earlier from smaller sections.
Edit: if it grows that fast it ain’t myc

T4 Ape pinning on brf agar. Gonna take a clone. I've not had much good looking growth yet but the T5's are looking decent.

Clone I took the other day from a 38g G.T. hoping I can turn this into a canopy of mushies that size

MS Penis Envy T2s PEtris. Transfers were late due to a number of reasons, and had to make some unskilled and ugly cuts with my inoc loop just to get them done as I'm out of blades so they aren't as pretty as they were.

Is this a contam I can’t place growing on my wild spore scrape? There are what look like hyphal knots almost with bubbles of super dense white tissue growth. Pic from back shows normal light myceial growth happening elsewhere.

Yeah, upon seeing some healthy mycelium also grow out I would definitely have to agree. Should I give the current myc more time before trying to transfer it out safely? I could go ahead and get some tiny rice grain transfers.

I would give it a chance to outrun it a bit... could do both one now, and one later

I let one of my RustyWhyte No Pours go for over a month, saw the pins forming and in a couple days stumbled across this.

Should I transfer it to a new plate? Is there any benefit to cloning pins on agar?

yes, the thinking goes cloning an agar pin means you're assured a gene set which doesn't mind pinning on agar. presumably, it indicates a strong fruiting culture, basically skipping the opening multispore project.

personally i doubt it's of any greater benefit than cloning fruit you like from an initial ms project. it's just another ticket in the genetic lottery.

Should I just do the whole thing on one plate or do people usually split it up?

I've always just dropped the whole pin in the plate.

Less handling = less chance for contamination
