The Passion of the Christ (serious thread + lengthy)
    #2387839 -

I have just returned home from watching this movie, and I want to share my reaction to it with all of you people. I never really gave the whole God thing much thought, and I must confess, it still kinda bothers me. While reading the Bible, it can be understood that Jesus was whipped and scorned. He was beaten and crucified for our transgressions. What that meant never really hit home in my brain until tonight. Seeing the graphic depiction of what Jesus went through was very emotionally upsetting to me, and I know, you guys are like "yeah, it's just a movie.." Well, I know it is a movie, but seeing about half of it was enough to kill some lady, and it totally sickened me. I am not ashamed to admit that the images contained in that movie made me cry. How can some people be so heartless, so thoughtless? Some of you may believe that Jesus is not the son of God. Okay, you are entitled to that opinion. I do believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that he died for us. Whether or not he was, the fact remains that Jesus put himself on that cross to show us the way. He stood firm in his beliefs, and ultimately died for them.

When I think about all the times I've denied my own faith, or my own beliefs, just because of the possibility that I might be displeased with what others think of me, I am saddened. I know that I would never have been able to go through so much, just because I had a firm belief in something. Seeing this movie has changed that. I will stand firm in what I believe from now on. Sorry for the length of this post, and if you haven'd seen the movie yet, go do it.

It was a pretty gross movie. It's weird that the violence depicted is a center piece of mass religion.

No, violence was not the center piece. In fact, if you switch it around; love was. Not only was Jesus completely open during such times of unconditional and brainwashed hatred, but throughout his entire life. Religion is such a shitty word for what describes the teachings of Jesus.

I am still trying to find out what "accepting Jesus as your own personal savior" is as I'm sure I agree with it already...but yea organized religion has become a sham.

Peace :smile:

I think that movie was overt. What was the point? If it was about love, why so graphic? I don't know.

Well, I imagine it was pretty graphic in real life, too.

It was graphic to illustrate the point of love, ironically enough.
It is easy enough to read in the Bible, and see a pretty little image in your mind of a whip and some nails, some scorning and beating, and you think "oh, how painful". Then you watch this movie, and you are completely blown out of the water by Jesus' love, as you actually get to see what he went through to show you the path out of darkness. Like I said before, if you haven't seen the movie, I recommend it..

Gibsons movies ARE graphic...Braveheart for example;

Violence sells

and sex too

Violence and sex...opposites resolved in thesexual encounter of dominance and submission...(and the goal of meditation the orgasmic union with God...interesting)
