'Tis indeed a god. :yesnod: Also known as Oizys, Algos, Miseria, Buddha, Our Lady of Sorrows, Jesus Christ...

No points for you, suffering is basically an electrical impulse that travels along your nerves as you encounter environmental stimuli.

I have studied Schopenhauer. I have not read all of his works. I don't understand what kind of example you're asking for here.

And has man ever found a compelling reason for his suffering or can he? What is it?  Do you think Nietzsche did considering his end? If not can we justify bringing others into the game?

Just to be clear, I am not arguing for Nietzsche's response to Schopenhauer. I brought it up to broaden the discussion. To answer your question: Neither Nietzsche nor I argue that man has to find a (compelling) reason for his suffering. It's the individual that does this. I think Nietzsche found what he at least thought, but likely felt, were reasons to go on.

Fairly sure Nietzsche suffered extreme chronic pain and poor health through his adult life..... "He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how."  For Nietzsche, I'm sure it he created his own purposes to keep on truckin'.

Well Mr Sudly, since you mentioned the "feeling" of the speed of light and threw in some dimensions of the sun, Im gonna give you an interesting arithmetic insight into both of them. Now you showed us the suns diameter in kilometers but I'll be using miles.

First off, lets post some figures from NASA:

Average Distance:
Earth to Sun = 92960000 mi  =(ES)D
Earth to Moon = 238,900 mi  =(EM)D
E(Sun/Moon) = 390 mi            =(S/M)E

Circumference:
Sun = 2,713,406 mi                =(SC)
Moon = 6,786 mi                    =(MC)
C(Sun/Moon) = 399.9 mi        =(S/M)C

Diameter/Radius:
Sun Diameter= 864,938 mi    Sun Radius = 432,469 mi                        SD    SR
Moon = Diameter 2160 mi      Moon Radius = 1080 mi                          MD  MR

Now were going to use a little number theory, linear algebra and the lost art of measure called Gematria. What we will do is take the ratio (SD/MR) and multiply by 1/2. Then we will take the order of magnitude of our result and factor it from SD and  MD. The reason for analyzing this 2x2 system this way is hard to explain but it has to do with a determinate so just enjoy the results.

Recall that the (S/M)E distance is very close to the (S/M)C. Were going to round them to 400 since there not exact anyways. So (S/M)E ~  (S/M)C ~ 400

Now our ratio (SD/MR)div2 =( 864,938/1080)/2 = 800/2 = 400. Holy Shit. 400 is popular right now.(this is very significant but we're skipping it)

Ok, now our Gematria! 400 is in the 1e^2 orders of magnitude. So now SD = 864 and MD = 216.

Alright, first off notice how 864 + 216 = 1080 = MR. Pretty cool huh. But theres more.

Notice how SD=864 is 4(MD=216). Weird right? Well what if we found the number between the two.

Lets see 864/2 = 216*2 = 432... What the Fuck!! Thats the Factored Sun Radius!!

Well since this is a 2x2 system why don't we square this result and see what happens!

Lets see, (432)(432) = 186,624...  Wait, whats the Speed of light in miles per second again? Oh yea, 186,282mi/s

Pretty close huh?

So heres my conclusion, either NASA is full of shit or is our solar system very, very symmetrical and we don know shit about anything. I don't know, do you? Could our random meat baggery be responsible? I really couldn't tell you. I just find the truth in the math.

Also, 432 is how many cycles per second are in the natural key of A as found by Pythagoras. Also theres a lot more special things about all these numbers but this is good for now.

Or your math is faulty and you are incorrect. Also he didn't mention the speed of light, and another thing being; what's your point?

I didn't get my feelings hurt. I don't take any of this personally unless I'm personally attacked. This just made me angry. This guy is a total kook and has nothing to say ever. Aside from that the stuff he says is incorrect. These forums are for sharing and gaining insight and this guy is just an internet troll. It's obvious to me that he's got something against my arguments on a personal ego based level but I don't want to deal with that shit. This guy needs to go see a therapist or at least learn how to construct any kind of somewhat sound arguement. I like that he disagrees but I hate his ignorance. I want people arguing against my claims but not just by saying "your wrong". It's just useless and I don't feel like having to interact with useless people.

Here. Lets just go through this argument a little. First off we have a definition, this is a good start. Lets look at this definition,

Morality: morality is just an accurate representation of reality.

Hmmmm. well I'm no linguist but I do have half a brain and half of that says this is a poor definition at best.

How about Morality: morality is just a misrepresentation of literacy.

Nah... no good either. Moving along. " I don't operate under the illusion that this planet or anything on it truly matters."

This is completely unintelligible. Next.  "Our deaths mean nothing, our lives make no difference. What you call a nightmare I call reality."

I believe my life and your's do mean something. In fact to me they mean everything. And if my definition of a nightmare is your reality than your totally fucked. I wish I could help you with that but it seems like you like it. Heres my "quick" definition of a nightmare. Nightmare: A horrifying dream that scares the shit out of you". Next.

"But I guess you have to distract yourself with a carrot on a stick to continue being blind to that fact"

So arguments and philosophy is a "carrot on a stick" and it leads to the continuation of blindness. Hmmmm. Not sure 1 person would agree there. Wait, let me recall what the "fact" was again, "we all were born from dust and that's where we go". Oh yea, thats right. Your "fact" is fallacious as hell. Well good thing for that carrot then. Id hate to not be blind to this fallacious claim. Thanks. Great job!

Short sighted, very short sighted. You aren't looking back far enough if that's your statement. At our very base we are nothing but a collection of atoms. We die, our body breaks down, and to atoms we go. That's dust.

Also I can pretty much just claim you are wrong because little of what you write has any facts to back it up. If you think these forums are for gaining insight, you might be overestimating them a bit. It's not my fault that you want to deny how insignificant we all are. It's something that takes time to swallow.

Oh, I forgot this one!
Alright, "You can't feel the speed of light". Ok. to answer this I'm going to give you an idea for a real word experiment first and then I'll argue the claim.

First, go outside and stare at the sun for 5 second's and then tell me how it felt.
"Feeling" is done through sensory reception. "Hearing" people say thing makes us feel things. "Tasting" and "Touching" makes us feel things too. And obviously, seeing makes us feel things as well.

An aphelion is the point when certain celestial bodies are farthest from us and Perihelion is when they are closest. Actually I don't have time to explain this so heres an excerpt from a web source. You can definitely feel the speed of light.  Enjoy

"Roemer observations told him that when Earth was farthest away from Jupiter, eclipses of Io were observed on Earth some 16 minutes later than when Earth was closest in its orbit to Jupiter. So, he concluded, light takes 16 minutes to cover the diameter of Earth's orbit. Since the diameter was known, he was able to come up with 140,000 miles per second as the speed of light. Today we have a more accurate figure for the speed of light (186,000 miles in one second), but this does not detract in any way from Roemer's achievement. His observations and deductions showed, for the first time, that light takes time to travel from one point to another. They also gave a fairly close approximation of the actual speed of light and showed that light was unimaginably fast. Roemer was also able to explain Galileo's and Descartes' failures. At a distance of a few miles, light travels too fast to be measured. It would, for instance, take a mere 1/18,600 of a second for light to travel 10 miles. Even moonlight reaches Earth in just 1.3 seconds."

isn't that part of the grim Christian funeral rite: ""We commit this body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust"". and also is 'in the midst of life you are in death' It is all typical downer joyless talk. it is a mindset which sees death as a sin, and life a gamble between heaven and hell. For the atheist there is not even THAT suspense. It is just 'all shit and then dead'

but WUUU dust seen on psychedelics is the most magical experience lol

It is all about perspective, and reminds me of that story of blind people feeling an elephant and they all describe it via what they feel?

Hate to break it to you, but that's still not feeling the speed of light. It bombards us every day but we still can't feel it. You feel the intensity, but not the speed. Feeling is a matter of emotion. Sensory perception is another matter entirely. I can hear something and nothing feel anything
