I appreciate hearing that.

Life is full of troubles. My life has been trouble from almost day one so I can relate.

I don't. Now matter what I do it's always there. Like death or the wind, always by my side. There is just no escaping from or dealing with it.

i find 'being in the heart' to be an effective approach to suffering. it seems to me that when the feeling of love is present then suffering is usually greatly diminished. so it takes finding an area, a person, a greater goal, something to direct your love towards. when we take the focus off just ourselves and our own suffering, it doesn't appear as bad

I would have to strongly disagree with that statement.

I accept and try to move forward. Like Icelander said distraction is the treatment.
Doing stuff i like to do, you know, while listening to music i really feel.
Going for walks in nature.
Hanging out with my girlfriend:smirk:

Helping others when I can, which I need to do more of as I find this helps the most.

Honestly, I need to find some better ways to deal with it though. Deep down, its really fucking with me.

First thing I do is not allow my suffering to have such an impact on me by doing things I know make me feel better, if only a little.Things like exercise, eating well and distracting myself with hobbies when I start thinking too much.

If I'm in a depressed funk they won't make me happy but they definitely make things more bearable. Strangely, I don't even need to be motivated to do these things, at least not in the traditional sense. It's more like a knee jerk reaction because I just despise feeling bad and won't put up with it.

nurture a sense of humour and into also allowing a surreal sense of humour, because comedy and tragedy are a dynamic. Things can get SO bad they can be funny. Crying is shared both by grief and crying with laughter

Magic mushrooms have taught me the healing power of giggles. And in such states you can actually feel this connection I am talking about

There was this trip I had where it was surreal in that we were in a hut by a beach and began the trip in the dunes, and as trip came up were involved in finding a lost dog for this holiday family--which we did

Later when it got a bit dark and cold we ended up watching a documentary on TV which just appeared (get me?) about the Israel and Palestinian conflicts. And it was a fly on the wall type where the camera is your eyes, and even though I ended up watching some real heavy shit I was giggling at the absurdity of it all. I do NOT mean it is funny to have an occupation which then murders your children, and bulldozes your homes, etc is 'funny'. I am more meaning there is some kind of deeper humour that laughs at the folly of the human being who is caught up in tragedy. it is BOTH humour and intense seriousness and love

Most of the 'stiffs' I see pics and busts of that are supposedly the 'great thinkers'--but whose thinking I see as toxic, they look completely without any sense of humour!
I have read that Pythagoras was a right miserable devil, and laughing was not allowed in his school
Quote:

Pythagoras - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia “The Pythagoreans observed a rule of silence called echemythia, the breaking of which was punishable by death. This was because the Pythagoreans believed that a man's words were usually careless and misrepresented him and that when someone was "in doubt as to what he should say, he should always remain silent"”

Could you  imagine getting the giggles in such a stern environment? But I would LOL

also:
Quote:
see, J. N. Bremmer: Symbols of Marginality from Early Pythagoreans to ... “The author looks at several symbols of marginality common to Pythagoreans and Christian desert monks and hermits: "the simple garment, resistance against laughter, the drinking of water, and ... vegetarianism…2. Laughter.

#fapping

Fapping is good but it mentally/emotionally washes out the good w/ the bad... So, it depends...  Sometimes I want to retain all the juicy bits :smile2:

... but honestly :
> Yoga
> Meditation
> A solid listening session to a new album at night with good setting
> A bike ride to get the blood flowing and some cardio in (body chemistry)
> A moto ride taking in the open air environment and sites/sounds
> music music music

> Allowing myself to wallow in the suffering for a time...

> Reminding myself of the deep suffering that has occurred throughout my life only to see that life eventually carried on.

> Reminding myself that you can't change the past but can change the present/future.
> Reminding myself of my goals and aspirations that lie beyond the suffering.

Suffering gives life fidelity and allows for greater appreciation of non-suffering.
It is a necessity and a constant.
Suffering comes and goes. The important thing is to grow and move beyond it.

Suffering comes and goes.

No not true for all. For some it comes and stays.  In youth when there is an injury there is usually little to no fear or depression for  the expectation is of a full recovery. In advanced old age with decrepitude or disease and constant pain there is no such carrot. It's a game changer imo.

Never mind, I misread your comment. I get what you were saying now.

Also I think suffering doesn't give greater appreciation of non suffering. Because you know that non suffering is fleeting and inevitably goes south, that's when people despair. Soon they're caught in what feels like eternal misery. The bad always seems so long in life and the good not long enough.

The only way one moves beyond it is to die.
