You'll have to excuse me.. I'm very tired and staying up to see the eclipse.

What I'm wondering is why don't you believe in an afterlife? To me, it seems pointless to believe in anything on the subject, because WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING.

You can't hold beliefs to cushion from a reality that we have no way of knowing... only to hide from the unknown.
Peace.

I don't believe in an afterlife because that would involve hiding from the unknown

Not believing in an afterlife is the same thing as believing in one. I don't see how you can decide something does or not exist when there is no way to find out until you die. Have you died yet?
Peace.

nah I think they're different. Belief in the afterlife is motivated by fear.

No, it doesn't have to be motivated by fear. Belief in something can be brought about by a number of things, it just depends on who it is that is believing in it. Can some people be motivated by fear to believe in an afterlife? Sure. Does that automatically equate into "all beliefs in the afterlife are motivated by fear"? Nei.
Peace.

Well you could go and read DMT The Spirit Molecule, this has some intresting info.

I've read it, but it still doesn't present any evidence that DMT is released at death. It presents evidence that DMT is a fucking doorway to something, but not that its released at death.

Well Mixomatosis I appreciate your insight but lets try to stay as inhostile as we can (this guideline is mostly for me). I dont know why I believe in an afterlife. Maybe is faith. Maybe I sat through 3 hours of church every week for 15 years and there propganda was pumped into my brain. Maybe its the idea that I would take a bath with a blowdryer if I positively knew I would never be able to see my recently deceased fiance again? Do you believe in God? Do you think we started out as amoebas? Have you ever been in love?...I have... DEEPLY. It is kind of hard to fathom that the things I have seen and experiences I have had with this mind is stricly the responsibilty of evolution. I dont want to die...maybe eventually I want to leave this body...but I dont want to die. If I can dream of being accepted in a world that exists after this world (heaven---not hell) then I will continue to suffer in this one for now. I am one of those people who needs to believe cause it's what stops me from pulling the trigger and there are many like me. GOd makes this world a better place even if he is only a figment of our imagination...So I will ask you, please do not try and convince people there is no God-afterlife because he is what some people need to wake up in the morning. And by the way stop by my castle if I ever make it to heaven...Im thinking about throwing a pretty tight birthday party for my fiance....March 24'th....the year 2100.
See ya on the flip side...Orizon
