Type of Death
    #2079268 -

Do you think the type of death your body experiences affects your transcendence into the afterlife (whatever that may be)? We know that DMT is naturally released in your brain when you die....well what if your death consists of having your brain shot out, or you get vaporized? Does that death 'feel' different from slowly slipping out of your body due to natural causes?

Any thoughts?

I have no experience on it, so I couldn't say.

I have actually thought about the same thing before, though. Like how people who know that they are going to die have time to repent or see their life flash by and whatnot while someone who gets shot in the head from behind never knows what hits them.

Then again, maybe they still get the reflection on life and whatnot after they die. Hard to say.
Peace.

In that case you better be careful about how you die: if John Ashwipe's goons show up you will be charged with a DMT violation which carries a 5-8 year prison sentance

But seriously, whether or not consciousness continues beyond death is impossible to prove either way ("logically undecideably"), for the simple reason that nobody has died and lived to tell the tale.

Governments throughout history have preached one way or the other in order to instill fear: the Catholic Church threatened divine retribution in the afterlife as a punishment for disobeying the church elites. More recently, "neuroscientists" representing the interests of American corporatism assert that there is no afterlife (ie, by dismissing the death experience as the effects of an illegal drug), which of course makes ppl more fearful of stageing an armed rebellion against the elites in which they may be killed.

All i can say is i fear dieing while asleep. That is one of the only things which truly rattles my bones. Not knowing it scares me. After all i consider death would be like a dreamless sleep you would never wake up from. Since you would never have to time to even comprehend it at any point it would just be even less than infinite nothingness.

There are people who have died (heart stopped-no brain waves or pulse) and have been revived. Im sure atleast one of the accounts these people claim to experience has to be true. Some claim to see there family...A bright white light etc....Whether or not they are actually continuing to the afterlife is a matter of opinion. I guess the flip side of the coin is that different chemicals (DMT) are released in the brain that trigger these hallucinations so the trasnsition is much more comfortable. Many people claim to go through a tunnel which when described sounds much like a K hole. I like to believe we are going to an afterlife...turning into nothing is the scariest thing too me----20X scarier then death.

Well i think right after the heart stops nerve endings in the brain fire which could bring back memories hence looking over ones life. Also the release of certain chemicals could cause this. But in the end i think it is just nothingnes multiplied by zero if you get what i mean. I liked the movie "signs" they did a nice job is carring their message relating to this.

I'm pretty sure I have experience with dying several times before, but I can't quite remember yet... right on the tip of my tongue...

But I'm playing with the idea that the DMT rockets you out of your body and then you are (for better or worse) lost (unless you're familiar) in the Astral Planes (aka Energy Realms aka Bardo aka the place between mind and matter) where you do stuff, and communicate with things, and then (if you follow your instincts) are reborn where it will be most beneficial to you (or a greater cause).

I'm still ironing that out, maybe I should start a new thread to clarify.

Well, even if there isn't a defined afterlife, I'm just talking about the passage from our world to whatever is next.  I can't help but feel that being vaporized would be a somewhat of a tramatic, abrupt way to enter the next state of being.  Dieing in my sleep, along with suddenly meeting my end frightens me too.  I feel like when I die, I'd like to slowly slip out of my body and be able to say 'ok, this is it'.

But I never get what I want....I'll probably get hit by a truck today .

I've read quite a bit about DMT, but I can't recall reading about any kind of evidence of DMT being released at death. I also haven't found much concrete evidence that DMT is produced in the pineal. You'd think that would be rather easy to find out...

There isn't much evidence about human DMT production.

I think Karl Jansen's theory that near death experiences are caused by natural ketamine-like glutamate blockers that are released during hypoxia (low oxygen) to prevent brain damage is a lot more plausible.

Monoamine....I saw that theroy on a documentary on the discovery channel before. "I think Karl Jansen's theory that near death experiences are caused by natural ketamine-like glutamate blockers that are released during hypoxia (low oxygen) to prevent brain damage is a lot more plausible." I am going to apply this theory to my recreational use of Nitrous oxide. Does this mean that if I start experiencing ketamine-like symtoms (K HOle) while inhaling N20 that this could be a sign of hypoxia setting in.....and can be used as a warning to cease inhalation? Hope you get this

Re: Type of Death [Re: orizon]

These theorectical molecules may be the brain's defense mechanism against hypoxia. Besides some vague references,I've never heard of dissosiatives causing hypoxia.

Keep in mind that inhaling anything for any extended period of time can cause hypoxia if one is not inhaling oxygen though.

Back to near death stuff...

Ketamine:Dreams and Realities has a lot of good information relating to the near death experience.

Jansen points out how most of the new age literature relating to the NDE is usually postive but many of these experiences are profoundly negative and that people experiencing negative NDE's are just less likely to report them. He sites various sources that claim that NDE's during suicide attempts are almost always negative.

Anyway, who knows if these are real experiences or just a chemically altered brain. With all the mind boggling discoveries in quantum physics that are backed up by scientific experiments,my logical self can't outright deny that consciousness may survive death in one way or another.

I think it's something that any thinking person wonders about? What is it really like to die?

We'll just have to wait and find out...

Honestly, living forever someone strikes me as being more disturbing in a wierd sort of than dying and experiencing absolutely nothing.

Re: Type of Death [Re: EvilGir]

Damn, I've been thinking about this alot... I just tripped hard on 5-meo-dmt yesterday, and I can how people tie it in with birth and death. If I didn't know I was on a drug, I would have thought I was dying, unlike acid where I'd prolly just think I was going schizo. I never really had any fear of death before... but holy shit that was intense. I got the white light for a moment, and thoughts flew through my mind as my heart became a ticking timebomb about to explode. After tripping on various substances, I thought I had figured out the basic limits of the brain. I've experienced dissociation, the white light, and all that near-death stuff while tripping, and 5-MeO showed me that that is just the tip of the iceburg. So, back to the topic... I couldn't have experienced that without a heart, or a consciousness to feel my heart. Just image the intensity of the last moment when you become consciously aware that your conscousness has ceased to exist. Almost like lifting a weight... your life is this struggle to lift... but soon enough you give. Death is the dropping of the weights, and the moment of consciousness that witnesses the falling, and then explosion into dust. A peak so strong no comedown is needed, complete resolution. My guess (as good or as bad as anyone else's) is that it doesn't matter how, but just that your brain experiences this change. Shortness of time should be no issue either, as I'm sure anyone who has tripped on 5-MeO-DMT would agree. Sorry if that's a bit long, I had to get it out.

there is no afterlife and even if there was, it's completely irrelevant, so stop clinging to these beliefs that serve no purpose other than to cushion you from reality.

You'll have to excuse me.. I'm very tired and staying up to see the eclipse.

What I'm wondering is why don't you believe in an afterlife? To me, it seems pointless to believe in anything on the subject, because WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING.

You can't hold beliefs to cushion from a reality that we have no way of knowing... only to hide from the unknown.

Not believing in an afterlife is the same thing as believing in one. I don't see how you can decide something does or not exist when there is no way to find out until you die. Have you died yet?

No, it doesn't have to be motivated by fear. Belief in something can be brought about by a number of things, it just depends on who it is that is believing in it. Can some people be motivated by fear to believe in an afterlife? Sure. Does that automatically equate into "all beliefs in the afterlife are motivated by fear"? Nei.
Peace.

Well Mixomatosis I appreciate your insight but lets try to stay as inhostile as we can (this guideline is mostly for me). I dont know why I believe in an afterlife. Maybe is faith. Maybe I sat through 3 hours of church every week for 15 years and there propganda was pumped into my brain. Maybe its the idea that I would take a bath with a blowdryer if I positively knew I would never be able to see my recently deceased fiance again? Do you believe in God? Do you think we started out as amoebas? Have you ever been in love?...I have... DEEPLY. It is kind of hard to fathom that the things I have seen and experiences I have had with this mind is stricly the responsibilty of evolution. I dont want to die...maybe eventually I want to leave this body...but I dont want to die. If I can dream of being accepted in a world that exists after this world (heaven---not hell) then I will continue to suffer in this one for now. I am one of those people who needs to believe cause it's what stops me from pulling the trigger and there are many like me. GOd makes this world a better place even if he is only a figment of our imagination...So I will ask you, please do not try and convince people there is no God-afterlife because he is what some people need to wake up in the morning. And by the way stop by my castle if I ever make it to heaven...Im thinking about throwing a pretty tight birthday party for my fiance....March 24'th....the year 2100.
See ya on the flip side...Orizon
