It's been around 24 hours since I noc'd up the BRF cakes with the LI and I swear I can already see tiny patches of growth. There's very small faint pieces of white in areas that line up directly with the inoculation points. I'm hoping it's bacteria-free!

Just in case anyone was wondering about those pour caps, I just got some from Target. 4 to a package, pp5.

What's the advantage to the pour caps over just unscrewing the lid and dumping?

Probably easier to control while pouring.

I think I was imagining things because it's been 4 days and nothing further than the potential small patches (which I think I'm imagining now). This is weird because in 2 days I saw noticeable patches in quart jar of grain using the same batch of LI.

They're at 60-65 so they're pretty cold so the growth should be slow, but I swear I saw more growth than this after 4 days with regular spore syringes.

My LI takes 4-5 days to recover every time. But once it does it moves fast.

Ok, that gives me hope. That quart jar with the patch is now a dozen patches, nothing on the hours yet though. It's unreal how fast it's going. Going from PF Tek to grains with LI's and slurries is like discovering the wheel.

The slurry monotub is the bomb.

It may have to do with the larger jar. That's why I like 1/2 pints. They hold the agar tight against the blades so that it gets chopped up rather than just moved around. Also I think you need to run your drill in revers to get the blades to spin in the right direction.

ding ding. the volume is very large and there is enough space between the blade and jar that the wedge slips by.

I agree with you both, but the drill was definitely part of it though. Mine is kind of weak and it didn't work with my slurry either. Once I bought the blender base, which I've now used on both agar LI and slurry, it worked super well.

Also those BRF cakes I was bitching about are going now, so that's neat. Come on quick colonization!

A blender works better for sure. I just came up with the drill option to get more people trying LI. I have used my drill and it worked but not as well as a blender.

For sure, it's an awesome addition and it would've worked if my cheap B&D wasn't so weak. I got my Oster at Target for $17 so if anyone else needs one, check their site and see if they have one in stock near you.

I saw them at Walmart very cheap as well. I live in Canada so they were $26 but for where I live that's a good price. The blade assembly alone costs like $20 here.
