Liquid culture inoculation...adds water to grain jars
    #4125139 -

I've been having this problem in the past...not all the time, but it seems that when liquid inoculant is (karo tek) there seems to be added too much moisture.  I don't have a lot of experience with liquid inoculation, so I'm not sure exaclty how many ml of the liquid culture/water needs to be added.  I try to make sure to get some white strands of mycelium out of the syringe, but sometimes this requires 3 or even 5 ml to be injected into the grain jar.
Any advice?  Would adding like a 1/4 cup of dry verm to the grain jars right before capping them for PC'ing be of help with this problem?  I was thinking of just shaking them all around so the verm would sponge up some of the excess water.
    Ideas?
    Thanks.

Dude, try this method:

Cut a chunk of colonized agar and add it to a small sterile jar with pieces of broken glass in it and a hole in the lid. Shake to chop up the mycelium. Draw up solutioninto syringe. If you shake it well enuf, there will be tons of pieces floating that you can't see. I inject about 0.5ml into each litre jar. You'll see growth in about 2-3 days at optimal.

good advice no-tone, i too have found the in using honey or karo 3-5 cc or even more is required for best results. When i was using the liquid inoculation it did make my jars a little wet, but nothing serious i just shook them a little more than usual until the mycelium really took hold.

the broken glass method works for both agar and kayro/dextrose LCs, you can als
do what I do and allow the mycelium to settle a bit and evacuate the extra solution, simply let it stand for 20 minutes on it's plunger

Just shoot in 1 cc of water from a good LC and you'll be fine.

The myc usually settles at the bottom of the jar. You can suck up and discard the liquid at the top of your LC jar, then the rest you suck up will be dense with myc. Or turn the jar upside down, leave settle, stick the needle only slightly in and suck in dense LC

If you happen to have a magnetic stir plate, place a stir bar in your LC's when you make them up & give them a spin just before use. It will cut myc into tiny tiny pieces.

If not, add a couple marbles to an LC, then agitate the hell out of it - right before use. That helps shred the myc - also.

P-1 is also correct about standing a syringe on it's plunger for awhile, then squirting out excess water. But, I have never found the need to, with shredded myc. I just shake the syringe & go for it.

I use 2.5 ml to a quart of WBS/Rye spawn & never had a problem (yet - anyway).
