Re: How to dial in your monotubs like a champ *DELETED* [Re: FrankHorrigan]

Hey frank, just wondering about how to adapt this for keeping my mono tub in a closet? My plans, while fruiting, are to have the tub in the floor with a 6500k lamp on it for 12/12 and to put the small fan on top of the tub and pointed at a wall. The reason I would prefer it be in the closet is due to restricted space in my room. Also I was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to keep a humidifier in either the closet or the room to keep ambient RH up? Great tek. Thanks a ton!

Hey Frank,  I've read this entire thread inside and out.  I'm curious why in your "Frank's Bulk Spawning Tek", how come you don't recommend covering your tub while it is colonizing.  You say it takes 7-21 days.  You stated earlier in this thread that you cover it with a thick warm blanket and it speeds the colonization of your tub tremendously (4 days sometimes, if my memory serves me correctly.)

Also I've been reading in this thread that casing cubes isn't needed (unless you're trying your hand @ penis envy.. giggity).  But your tek recommends casing and letting it colonize 30% before introducing it to FAE.  Just wondering what route I should take when I'm ready to spawn to bulk.

Last, but not least, You don't really go into details about anything really past the 1st flush.  Just to keep misting and continue with fruiting conditions.  You don't really go into any detail about what fruiting conditions are.  I've read enough to know that it's 12/12 with 6400 lighting.  Just curious why you don't really go into fruiting conditions.  Perhaps I am over looking a link to the information.  Thanks for reading!

A not covered monotub is fruiting conditions.

I guess I meant why lighting isn't discussed.  It may seem like second nature to some but to some it isn't "like riding a bike" yet   That's all.. I'm following Frank's steps as we speak.  If lighting isn't important then I digress.

Lighting is very important for full nice fruits. But they will grow in the dark. Lights good even during colonization.  First link in my signature has a link to lighting info. 6500k 12/12 26w spiral a foot away works well

Thank you so much for going into such great detail. i am on my way to wally world as i have 32 quart jars of wbs fully colonized and just about ready to transfer. If i get the 66qt bins how many 1 quart jars do you recommend per bin?

I would do 8 per tub with 10 qts of sub. That'll give you 4 tubs even.

If you have always used tyvek, how do you know you hate polyfill?

Polyfill is adjustable, tyvek is not.

We use tyvek as filters for our jars specifically because it blocks a lot of FAE, while at the same time allowing for some GE.

For fruiting we want tons of FAE, so using tyvek makes little sense. Use polyfill so you can adjust the amount of FAE the tub gets.

After reading many threads on here, everyone is always suggesting using polyfil, SFD's, or easy-felt.  Tyvek is usually a last resort (desperation).  I like polyfil because as PF stated, is adjustable.  I even took it a step further and ironed out polyfil and turned it into a flat filter.  It's worked for me so far   The filters are in my sig

never said i never used poly
i guess im just a little biased. ive made 100's of tubs before and tyvek has always been great. if i need fae i just poke a few holes in it.

never had much luck using polyfil so i stopped using it for tubs early on. when i used tyvek it worked like a charm so i never tried anything else after.

also tyvek is free

*
first time using tyvek. never looked back.

Frank, thanks for all you do on this forum. Your efforts are admirable. However, I think this thread should be called "how to do polyfill correctly" unless more info gets added?

I've read through the whole thing and now I know how to do polyfill. I still don't know how to "dial in" my tubs.

What about lighting? What about the lid? Do I leave the lid on or take it off? What do I do if the humidity isn't high enough? etc etc.. Because I have no idea based on this guide.

Just an observation... can anyone clarify?

I've never gotten a straight answer here either. Really would help a lot of noobs out if it was clarified what the solution to each problem is instead of just saying "adjust it", or "just dial it in". Fan speed and position would be helpful information also.

The poly fil manipulation is how you "dial it in" there's a lot of mono teks that tell he answers to your questions. Fan in the room not pointing directly at the tub, light..just give it some light don't over think it, 6500k bulb on a lamp near by or something similar. The tight bottom and loose top is what I'd consider like a baseline setup but then you have to tweak things to your setup. I can mist during the day so I keep a good fan going and my top poly out and just most a few times a day to get a lot of FAE. You won't find every answer to every little thing you come across sometimes you just have to use common sense and pay close attention to cause and effect

it really is what it says you have to find what works for your room see i use real loose poly in 2 inch holes but others find this not optimal in there room you can put the fan on low
