if it allows and restrcts air and is synthetic it may work...poly is adjustable though.

Well yeah that was why I thought it could work. Synthetic fabric that can control air flow by being layered.
The part I can't figure out is if say, the top holes are 1 layer, how many to put on the bottom to make it flow the same as the polyfil. I have the polyester silk already, and I also have polyfil, but I want to use rectangular holes as per the thermodynamic analysis done by GreenRabbit and the only way to do it effectively would be to iron polyfil sheets together to make "filters" (which I don't have, only regular stuffing) or to find a suitable replacement to be put over the openings, instead of it being placed inside them.
Hmm.

1000% over thinking it, they want as much air as possible and enough humidity to not dry out. Tubs provide their own humidity if they get enough fresh air and the substrate was at field capacity

Hey Frank I was wondering if you could give an opinion on using faux silk made of polyester to cover the holes. The fine thread type used in boxer shorts or for bed sheets. I was thinking of maybe layering, cross-hatching and ironing some sheets of it together. Do you think it could work? If so, how many layers thick would you make the top and bottom ones?

I'd greatly appreciate any input from someone more experienced. Thanks.

Frank hasn't been around in a while..

It really depends on how dense your polyester is. If it is like boxer shorts it is probably a bit too dense.
You're going to have to experiment or get polyfill and follow the tek.
We can't really advise you when you use materials we aren't familiar with.
I'd recommend following the tek if it's your first grow.

Also, you are overthinking my analysis. Don't worry about the geometry. It really doesn't matter with polyfill since you adjust it as needed anyway.

Hey frank! Getting close to fruiting my first 4 monos. Wondering since I followed your tek to the T, about how much dry is it possible to harvest per first flush?pic fhttp://or example

Anywhere from 3-6 ounces dry.  Per flush per tub.  So if you have 4 tubs, multiply by 4.

Unless you are working from clones or a monoculture, your flushes will be unpredictable

They don't have to have a clear top but it's really really preferable that they do, otherwise you're looking at making your own windows or shining light through the sides.

had a quick question i been hearing people spray paint the bottom of there tubs instead of using the black plastic bags is that ok cause those bags can get expensive after awhile. and it would make more sense like get some sandpaper do the bottom and then get some plastic spray paint and just spray the bottom to the holes. yes or no?

use cheap bags, or don't use any bags.

spraypainting doesn't do anything, the liner is just for easy clean up. you can use a clear liner. light doesn't cause side pins.

side pins are caused when your surface isn't as good of a place to pin as the sides are.

Interesting read from you Frank.  I tried to read every page, and I got through over half of it, but I decided to skip to the end. LOL. This is obviously my first post and I've been lurking for a few weeks now and just signed up a few days ago. I have my jars inoculated playing the waiting game right now. Looking forward to using your Tek.  Of course I might have some questions in the future

Call me crazy, but I'm starting with 10 mono tubs and 40 quart jars.  Lol.  I definitely have a good reason behind this though.

If the walls dry up during the first flush, adjust your poly in the top holes and make sure your fan is not too close to the tubs. Mist the walls if they've dried up, do not mist the substrate however.

Great tek! Followed it my first grow many years ago, but not misting the sub is old news isn't it? From what I've read into recently you should mist the sub as misting the walls won't do much. Amiright?  :puddingpop:
