Re: How to dial in your monotubs like a boss [Re: SpitballJedi]

Thx for the reply!
I can´t wait to get this thing up and running :-)

SpitballJedi:
I toke your advise on downsizing the holes a bit, but I actually manage to fit in a 1.3" hole in top of the short side so I just made all 6 holes that size, it´s never to late to make them larger if that should be necessary. I hope that I will be abel to tune it in to get enough FAE without having a fan running in the room, but we will se about that :-)

NumeroEno:
I think I heard it before but would properly have forgotten if you did not remind me... it worked out nice and smooth :-)

Hey Frank - THANK you for this awesome tek.  I have a quick question about a  variation I would like to try - if you think it will work.

I have 6 - 4"x 5"x 2" trays of bulk - - They're just about fully colonized and I'm wondering if I can put them in your mono tub...  well, not YOUR mono tub, *MY* mono tub using your design.

It's obvious to me that doing it 100% your way would have been optimal, but I found your tek only after the tray's were made. :frown:

I think it should work, and I wouldn't even have this question if the trays were 3" deep as you suggest in your tek, but since they are so shallower - I just can't decide it it'll work.

What do you think?  If you think it won't work, what would you suggest for fruiting the trays?

Better off fruiting the trays in a SGFC with perlite

I like fruiting trays in monos better personally, like people do with bottles. You want to cover most of the mono though, not just 1 tray.

Frank - hate to bother you, but I have a question about stacking monotubs during fruiting conditions.  Do you typically light from the top of the room, or do you have lights on the side as well?

Obviously, if monotubs are stacked four or five high, the bottom ones won't receive as much light which could result in lesser yields?

Let's pitch a tent and gear up for the long haul, since Frank hasn't replied to a thread (outside of journals) since December, and he's for sure the only one who knows the answer to your question.

Monotubs that aren't getting as much light may have a reduced yield, so the solution is to add more light.  If that doesn't answer your question you're not trying hard enough. :goodluck:

Now we're asking the real questions.

When introducing fruiting conditions should I keep the top holes open if there is constant water droplets/condensation on the walls of the tub?

My sub is still moist.

Pussyfart hasn't even appeared in the last 2 pages of this thread.  Might as well have said "that explains my problem" in any random thread that's been stagnant for a few weeks.  Quote feature might help with that.

Please don't flame me for this but I keep seeing conflicting reports on benefits of a casing layer with these monotubs. So I was wondering at the very least would it hurt yields to have it?

One reason you read conflicting info is because many people don't know wtf they're talking about and also miss subtleties in language.

Cubes don't require a casing layer. People who have perfectly dialed-in growing conditions may not notice a benefit from a casing.

One benefit of a casing is it allows you to have higher FAE without the surface drying out as fast.

It seems like casings fell out of popularity for a period, for various reasons, but some growers are using casings again because of some of the benefits. But,it is one of those things where some growers won't see the benefit being worthy of the effort whereas some will find it useful. Grow your own grow (GYOG)

Wow! Awesome Tek, awesome thread! Love the discussions here!

I always liked loose polyfill for airflow, and it makes sense to have it tighter at the bottom where the contam population is higher and more dangerous. I haven't made it through the whole thread yet, there's just so much here!

+1!
