If the walls dry up during the first flush, adjust your poly in the top holes and make sure your fan is not too close to the tubs. Mist the walls if they've dried up, do not mist the substrate however.

Great tek! Followed it my first grow many years ago, but not misting the sub is old news isn't it? From what I've read into recently you should mist the sub as misting the walls won't do much. Amiright?  :puddingpop:

He was saying mist the walls to see if you have adjusted the polyfill correctly.

If you did, there should just be rings of dryness around the holes. If not, then the walls will dry up again.

Mist the substrate if it looks dry, there should be beads of moisture(condensation) that are constantly evaporating off the substrate.

Evaporation off the substrate is a main pinning trigger.

use cheap bags, or don't use any bags.

spraypainting doesn't do anything, the liner is just for easy clean up. you can use a clear liner. light doesn't cause side pins.

side pins are caused when your surface isn't as good of a place to pin as the sides are.

Agree with you partially. I believe the liner does prevent side pinning but not due to the lack of light but by preventing a micro climate from forming which will be ideal for side pinning . Just been reading around a lot lately on here.

Oh ok must have misunderstood. Good to know! Thanks! I never misted my sub in my last grows so I'll be doing so this time to see what difference it makes.

Looks ok to me. Why are you fruiting with plastic on the sub????

It's a wax paper casing. I know this is not needed for cubes but I'm just trying it out. I have some PE colonizing now so I'm debating to 50/50 case or use this wax paper method

Oh ok. I would actually case it with the PE. There's a reason why the majority of people don't go the easy route with paper or bubble wrap. But good luck...

Soon as you see pins popping under there take it off.

Yea I've done PE with a 50/50 case and all I got were a bunch of blobs and some pretty awful pin sets so I was considering trying the wax paper and figured I'd give it a try on a more forgiving strain like b+ which is currently in this grow. Maybe it was just poor genetics so maybe I'll stick to a traditional casing.

:super: Haven't done it in awhile but I liked to late case with PE. Let it knot up real good, fruit for a couple days (if you want), then case it with whatever.

I'll have to try the late casing method. Thanks for the tips

Also try a lower spawn ratio if you haven't yet.

If you covered you substrate with anything it won't evaporate so you won't be able to tell if it's dialed in.

So what I'm gathering is remove the wax paper (for this and any future grow) and then see how the evaporation pattern looks?

most people use 1 to 1.25 gal of water in a substrate made of one brick coir and some vermiculite.

that's a lot of water. you'll have plenty humidity for pins without the wax paper or bubble wrap

Well from what I can tell is your top hole needs to be a bit looser with poly. Looks like you took a big wad and shoved it there. We'll it needs to be looser so air can get inside and then science takes over from that point. I have mine really loose on top barely any poly fil in the hole. I think your just getting inpatient and reaching out for too many ideas. The tub will pin when it's ready to pin. I found the less you fuck with it the better off you are with them. That's my opinion tho...

Thanks Frank,
Finally got full canopy in the tub with 2 flushes before even re-dunking the sub. And it took less work than I've ever put into a grow. Just diailing in the tub and I think taking your advise on the spawn dunk before adding to the substrate.

Great tips.

Re: How to dial in your monotubs like a boss [Re: PussyFart]

I've dialed a good monotube following the rules

But now I've got an issue.Basically, when I left the tapes and put the polyfill the walls dried up in one night, BUT thr sub. did not.

So now I got all fuzzy knots like there is no enough air but if i put the mono near the fan it will dry up in few hours (the walls) but without any evaporation from the substrate....the sub is always shiny and wet.

I don't know if i should tight up the bottom holes or the upper ones or both (or no one)

and also I have no pin after 5 days....usually I got knots after 3 days

I changed the (good one) box because of the wrong holes position to use a proper one but I'm having more problems now :/

pls help

The walls evaporating doesnt mean shit thats just the temperature difference causing condensation ... the surface shouldnt dry up it should always have beads of water just cause it doesnt loom like its drying doesnt mean its not

Yeah I know but I still have No Pin after 7days.....with the old box the sub dry out several time but I always have a good first flush yield

Now the sub is:

1-too wet and without any evaporation sign (too few air)
2-imediately dried up

I don't know what to do anymore.

7 days an no pins is nothing to be worried about. I've seen 2-3 weeks before my first pins show up. It's hard to tell what you've already done to your tub and without pictures it's hard to tell what's going on. Changing multiple things during a grow makes it hard to diagnose what the actual issue is.
