What is "supernatural"?
    #18059663 -

If something "supernatural" did exist, would it not then be part of the natural world?  Therefore, by definition, the supernatural is something which does not exist.

What is "man made"?
Everything man makes is with materials from the Earth.

Why do we drive on parkways, and park in driveways?

Well, the normal exists and also the paranormal.  Similar.

What is natural seems to be agreed upon or a consensus.  What is supernatural is beyond this agreement.

My understanding of why there is no "supernatural" is that the concept assumes an ultimate reality in which there are essential divisions.  For example, existence before death and existence after death.  Or malevolence apart and separate from the ordinary human experience of malevolence.  Divisions like that.

Seen through the eyes of the aware and awake, however, there are no essential divisions, anywhere. Or so the mystics tell us.

The essential division is that of experiencing the supernatural and believing it to exist...  Seeing and hearing it...  And the outright denial of it and lack of direct experience.

First look at etymology of it: supernatural means: supernaturalis < L. super, above + natura, nature: Being beyond or exceeding the powers of nature, not occurring through the operation of  merely physical laws, but by an agency above and separate from these.’

The mindset that claims it is 'above' nature is a patriarchal one that divides nature from spirit! When it goes into its secular phase--physicalism-- it abandons the concept of spirit entirely, and is trying to do the same even with consciousness!

I do not think like that and see nature as alive and part of continuum with many dimensions of potential and experience.

The fact that we cannot see and feel deeper aspects of nature is due in large part to the oppressive culture which dumbs us down deliberately.

Our five senses are not reliable indicators in this realm.  The internet is full of stories -- complete with pictures -- of people who claim that miraculous images of the Virgin Mary have appeared on their breakfast toast or in water stains on their basement walls.

Should we believe these people?  Using your criteria... we can "see it," therefore we should believe it?

What makes claims of "seeing and hearing" ghosts, goblins, or demons any different than seeing the Virgin Mary on your breakfast toast, in your opinion?

That's for sure.
But there are more subtle senses like seeing into other realms of pure energy and hearing 'in the mind' sounds that aren't SPL or decibels.
Doorways can be opened and 'activity' observed from within the imagination.

Then prove it.

This is 2013.  As we speak there's a vehicle scouring the surface of Mars.  We've decoded the goddamn fuckin' human genome, for cryin' out loud.

Are you telling me that ghosts exist but no one can submit proof of their existence?

Please.

Get real.

You are making that claim, I guess.
What would be proof in a realm where our five senses aren't adequate?

The best I could do would be to break down your reality and let them into your mind.  I don't know how to do that.

Respectfully, that's hocus-pocus bullshit.

Here's the thing.

There are millions and millions of people who allege having had encounters with the supernatural.  Fine.  Are you telling me that not one of them has been able to submit evidence of it to the scientific community -- evidence that would for once and for all close the debate on the subject?  Not one?

I'm old and over the years have picked up some wisdom.  I'm here to tell you that there are two great human motivators:  sex and money.

Believe me when I say that if someone could prove the existence of the supernatural -- and thereby become, overnight, one of the richest and most famous human beings who ever walked the surface of the planet -- they would have, by now.

The laws of economics apply.

In 2013, if the supernatural were for real, someone would have stepped forward with definitive proof that would satisfy the world's scientific community.

It's really as simple as that.

Ok well from my understanding supernatural is that which science hasn't been able to answer. Thousands of years ago people would look into the sky and see stars moving. They called it supernatural. Now we call them planets. Obviously science hasn't answered everything in this universe or anything under the veil, or even if there is a veil, so I think of it as supernatural. That would make the psychedelic experience supernatural under that definition since science is baffled by that experience as well. Accept you really don't know anything and that your supernatural experience is unique to everyone else's.

Science can only go as far as our own two eyes. You can't hope to even try to answer everything in reality with it. Even the psychedelic experience is unknown after the psychoactive substance binds to our 5-HT and 5-HT2 receptors. Every human emits a frequency just like a television and every time it switches a new "channel" comes on. Science will never be able to answer this unless we fully understand our brain. So I hope that helps in why it's impossible to actually come up with scientific proof. We must first completely understand our brain and mind. It's a lot harder than cracking our genomes.
