Proposal: Shut down registration * 4
    #13988269 -

Sounds like a good portion of the population has problems with internet trolling affecting the cool atmosphere that the shroomery has been a part of for the majority of its lifespan. I suggest admins consider closing down registration to limit the burden on moderators.

Close down registration, perhaps the exception being through veteran invitation; and weed out the trolls one by one, until this place is somewhat less polluted with abusive activity. It doesn't bother me much when I post to an anon thread asking for help that ends up being a joke, but its kinda lame were wasting time when we dont have to.

What, exactly, constitutes trolling to you? It seems to have become a catch-all phrase for a lot here to describe posts they don't like for one reason or another.

Oh ok, I thought it was meant to describe a certain type of poster whose intent is to consistently make the experience of others worse. A person who adds (-----) intentionally, rather than (++++), whatever means they do it by is another matter I guess.

Like I said, its doesn't bother me much, but it is kinda :gaystapo:. It doesnt take a genius to decipher half of the posts/anon as underadged kids jerking off on a website that was intended for serious/chill discussion.

It would bother me to lose longterm members, much more than it would bother me to 'close the borders', because the :gaystapo: became too much of a deterrent to post here.

How is any so called troll forcing anyone to respond to their post?

Are we really that weak?

In the example I referred to above, people recently are posing as having serious questions in forums like mental health/sex relationships, I take 20 minutes out of my day to write something helpful and particular to their situation, then I learn later by their replies that they were full of shit and just posting to be a dick or something.

I guess I could just choose to stop answering anon posts.

What of the 95% majority of new registrants who aren't trolls, and who come here for at times urgent information, and sincere community participation?

I think closing registration would go against everything the Shroomery stands for which is free speech and the free flow and sharing of accurate information as it pertains to psychoactives

Yeah, I mean look at Doc_T, over 100 ignores.

You should really follow in Doc_T's steps and ignore anyone who opposes/outwits/trolls you.

Exactly. Close registration on a public message board? That would be just as ridiculous as putting someone on ignore on a message board.

You also don't have to actually use the ignore function, to ignore people. I do it all the time, just keep scrolling, keep scrolling. :sip:

From a new Newb; it would be a shame to shut down registration.

Why not just hold the individual abusing the boards rules accountable, or, require additional registration ID fidelity - people might be  less likely to violate if you have verified their phone during registration.

Back in the olden days we read a post we didn't like, considered it, then thought "naaah" and didnt respond to it.

The good thing about oldskool ignoring is that people always have the chance to redeem themselves to you by their subsequent postings.  Some time ago I managed to offend someone, unintentionally, by their misunderstanding of my intentions. He put me on ignore. Now I can't take the issue up with him in IM or drop a word, to let him know I regret upsetting him and what I really meant with what I said.

His choice of course but, putting people on ignore is a disempowering act towards oneself, and an unforgiving hostile act towards the other.

You need a degree of friction and opposition to keep in check with reality.

If you keep bumping your head you can forever attach soft comfortable pillows to every obstacle you meet, but it might be wiser to really ask yourself why YOU bump your head ALL THE TIME and others apparently dont.
