Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

This was a noble attempt, but it stopped short of that. Sorry all this trouble came, but most of all I'm a bit annoyed at a number of posters views on OTD. The "weed sites" don't have an OTD, but neither do they have any community-oriented forums.

Look at the forums in this BB- this is clearly not a website devoted to mushrooms alone- the first section is devoted to mushrooms, a couple of forums are devoted to drugs/general questions, and a large number on side interests. "culinary arts".. yes, this place enjoys variety.

it is sad to me that most people don't seem to see the value of otd- it is a place where people have come simply to relax. After a long day at work, a person will look forward to sitting down and just letting his fingers do the typing and let his mind wander and smile at triviality. Virtually no one came to this site for OTD- they are all members who are either just relaxing or taking an extended break from the other forums- they can be more cruel than anyone in OTD. I've noticed very elitist sentiment in a few forums and so gradually started hanging out in otd. Sure, i don't seem to fit in too well ( at least it seems that way to myself ), but it doesn't matter!

Me..... I think I am glad to see it back. I voted for hidden forum with thread expiration. To me, I just don't see why that doesn't make complete sense.

I mean, if anyone wants a thread to be saved, one short PM with the address of the thread, maybe a sentence saying why they think it should be saved, and then BAM! The thread won't disappear. If someone wants a thread to be saved in OTD, taking one minute to PM someone should be worth that miniscule amount of time to speak up.

And having it hidden with a disclaimer why it is hidden makes complete sense. It isn't like there is leisurely chit chat about spiritual matters going on in there. There is porn and all sorts of comments going around that would make a nun burn in a flash of pain and smoke.

And there is nothing wrong with that. Hell, one of the first posts I made in there was just "Fuck George Bush" repeated ad infinitum. But there are people that don't want to read that. Making them have to take just one step that shows a desire to post there, fully understanding what goes on there, makes sense. No one can cry about opening a page that has some guys ass all spread open. A disclaimer in the thread title itself isn't even needed, because there is already an understanding that that picture could pop up at any time.

So, what am I missing? What is the unknown force that is keeping me from the light? Does what I say NOT make sense? Two steps right there, and the people that decide to revel in the essence of OTD get to do so with no restrictions. The people that do not wish to see it don't see it. The threads in there that someone does not want to disappear don't disappear. The vast majority of posts that no one will even think about in a week or a month disappear, and The Shroomery's message boards hum at a new efficency.

Apparently a lot of people decided that this makes sense because I don't see why it shouldn't. Why does it have to be too late to do this? No one is going to be burned in effigy for doing so. And if anyone feels the need to get so upset about it that they need to disrupt things, then they are fucking crazy and should be dealt with. Seven individuals out of the mass of thousands can't have decisions effecting all of us made for them just because they throw the biggest fit.

I mean, I am sure that there is some insane lobbyist in Washington that sprouts off how the government's power needs to be handed to him. Just because he is right up in the decision makers' face and screaming his demands in their ear doesn't mean that the government is handed to him.

Anyways, am I wrong? Has anything I said not made any sense? If it hasn't, let me know. Let's all remember that is is suspossed to be about the :mushroom2:

The big deal is that 40% of the shroomery is OTD and that's serious.
I'm not against OTD, i just think leaving things the way they are, someday, we'll be growing Ps. Offtopikensis.:smirk:
We may ignore OTD growth in this house in terms of bandwidth, content, size, attention and intention but the fact is the roof might not be tall enough in the future and even today it takes almost half the house for himself.
That's the only big issue with OTD and i say it because i care. I want the best for this place damit .... :frown:

Try to delete/destroy the most popular forum and what do you expect to happen...

I think its a good idea to delete old posts.  But keep the post count :smile:

Here's what I feel for any non-admin member who is upset that 3dshroom wants to have a website with an otd. What are you doing? It's someone's website and it's just another section of it. If you don't go there it has no effect on you. As far as making the site faster while searching, it's already been stated by ythan that this can be done without destroying otd.
Anyhow it's really not our website and we don't have any place demanding that the wrongly deemed "problem forum" be taken away. Yeah I argued and got all pissy before the forum went down, but it was only because I was afraid no one would hear my opinion if I just quietly sent my suggestion to the admins. I'm very happy with what 3d did, but I think it wasn't really my business what the admins did in the end, because it's their site. Also, it would have worked out somewhat fine with the dark underbelly as a general otd.

Those that truly understand respect you and thank you for all the effort you have put forward. You intentions were good and noble. It's a shame things ended up this way.

Don't get discouraged though, you can do no good if you don't get back on the horse when it kicked you off.
