POLL: Who Was Just? The American Indian Tribes Or USA Government
    #13512409 -

In the historic conflict betwen the tribes and the usa government which resulted in native americans being put on reservations which side was righteous?

This question is not being posed in a racial sense, it's not whites versus native americans... its being presented as usa government versus native american tribes.

I've heard it said that if Native Americans were left undisturbed that by the year 5500AD their techology level would just barely allow them to create inland fish hatcheries.

Sorry, but get the fuck out the way?  This land is too valuable to let it be a preserve for backwards ass cavedwellers who would rather spend their days banging rocks together.

Indians survived thousands of years by banging rocks together, great logic. You obviously know absolutely nothing about the history of Indians or their culture.

Lets destroy billions of years of evolution so we can have pointless material objects and print millions of 100 dollar bills, then we will be happy, successful and live fulfilling lives.

Whatever happened in the past, the natives sure get it good today - they have the right to live on the reservation with less laws, or off of the reservation with the population at large.  They get the right to make that choice, a right that I have been denied because of my ethnicity.

Seeing as you have failed to qualify, your question is impossible to answer.

However, it is interesting to note that the Native American tribes that first had access to a decent amount of firearms used them to dominate neighboring tribes and quickly expand their territory. (Sound familiar?) Were they righteous or were the Indians that were getting their asses kicked righteous?

Studied indians much?  They were ass backwards even for a bunch of ass backwards idiots.  If we didn't rape them, someone else would have.

Yes, let us puzzle over this, who was in the wrong, when an invading horde slaughtered people on land their ancestors had lived in for generations, then forced the survivors to live on reservation territory. What a moral dilemma!

In your moral indignation you failed to address my serious counterpoint. No surprise there.

If your ancestors were not bad-ass takers, it is extremely unlikely you would be here to moan about injustice.

And?

Perhaps a little education is in order.

Quote:
"The country’s 2.1 million Indians, about 400,000 of whom live on reservations, have the highest rates of poverty, unemployment, and disease of any ethnic group in America" Native Americans remain at the bottom in almost every measurable economic category. Indians earn only a little more than half as much money as the average American-less money per capita than whites, blacks, Asian Americans, and Hispanics. Nearly one-third of Native Americans live in poverty, which is more than twice the rate for Americans in general. American Indian couples earn $71 for every $100 earned by all United States married couples.

Got it good?  By whose standard?

For over 10 years here, I have read thread after thread and post after post of flat declarations with nary any explanation.

I guess all of these posters have access to special information that most of us don't

or

they are gullible beyond belief.

Is this a flat declaration or are you going to provide historical evidence for your claim?

Not only are there thousands of historical examples of a group/tribe/nation/species using superior technology/weaponry to dominate another as is obvious to any student of history and biology, but I provided a clear reference the last time you questioned this several months ago.

There is a huge difference between making a flat declaration and re-annotating the exact same topic time-after-time.

You have even referenced this 'wear-down' strategy as a fallacy.

Very few large scale historical events/processes are so simple that you can make a simple summation and conclude "who was really righteous". That is my opinion.

If you made it a question of legality, i.e. right according to the laws at the time then it's a simpler question (simpler - not simple!), but right according to the law might not bear much resemblance to your idea of being righteous (I presume- for comparison, from an international legal point of view, China has done nothing wrong in Tibet! Talk about human rights all you want, but that's a different matter.) But then it would be a string of particular cases of different parties vs the U.S. government and others, not all the Indian tribes vs the U.S..

No, you didn't.  And that is a side step.  Many, many tribes simply relocate or, being nomadic, roam constantly out of harm's way, and some simply weren't fighters.  My people, the Cherokee, did not "take up arms" in defense.  Neither did they attack anyone.  Their constitution was modeled after the US'.  Similarly, Eskimos, also, did not "take up arms."  To insinuate that all peoples are like the white invaders is not only a version the logical fallacy of Tu quoque, it simply isn't true.

One would trust you will feel the same way and/or uphold your "train of thought" (as resonated in this thread) in the event the Chinese (oh let's say 75 years from now - hypothetically of course) rape (simple example - gang raping its women in front of their husbands) and pillage (mostly direct or indirect economic as well geopolitical manipulation or asset retrieval through physical force) western europe, embarass its people, destroy the majority of cultures, remove most dignity of its peoples, rewrite history (so that things like Beethoven was a joke, Da Vinci long forgotten, "Ching mong Dang" instead of Einstein created the theory of relativity, removed all past influence of British and Spanish empires so that the majority of the world has any idea of its linkage to people of european background such to encourage greater ego of such people, and made Rome look little more than a historical foot print), and then create quasi complex psychological based strategies to subdue the people towards the long term while also alienating them amidst other peoples and themselves through traditional divide/conquer techniques.
