What was it like before you were born? I imagine it will be similar to that.

It's a good question. I am convinced of a soul. I can only presume reincarnation, but I have a feeling we may be able to choose.

Fortunately it doesn't really matter  I mean, you're immortal after all

Oh wait I misread the topic. No, I don't think it matters if it's a suicide or something/someone else kills you. There's no maddening morality like that.

If ghosts exist, I believe they are human souls which committed suicide and/or murder. I think they probably get trapped in this realm for a very long time, at least until they get their minds on the right track. In my opinion, no human has the power to decide when he/she gets to leave this life, or when another human leaves for that matter, ie, committing murder. I think humans which do one of the two, inevitably get to stay exponentially longer than if they would've just waited it out. These souls probably have it much more difficult in the next life as well.

Why do you assume that there's even a such thing? :strokebeard:

My retarded die-hard Catholic extended family members believe that you'll go to "hell" if you kill yourself, but I don't give a shit about what they believe because they are retarded. :tard:

I don't really see the difference, in both cases you're dead.
What's a soul? Where did you get that idea in the first place?

I'm a souless human and it feels damn fine.

Alright arguably any definition if pursued hard enough gets reduced to circularity or absurdity and is thus unsatisfactory ... but that ain't what I'm talking about here.

The idea of a "soul" is absurd from the start, and any attempt at a definition of it (at least that I've ever heard) makes this blatantly obvious.

"It's what survives after death." -- that's not a definition, that's an insane assumption.

"It's the real you that isn't made of matter." -- again, an assumption, not an actual description of anything. What's the basis for saying I'm not actually made of matter?  Why invent an entirely new class of entity which cannot possibly be investigated when physical laws already account for my existence and thought processes?

Absurdity is the very nature of it, however, philosophy a lot about 'what ifs' or 'given this... then...', and one has to be open to definition. Context is more relevant than text-book definition to a great degree, and for cases of untestability, you have to bare patience because anything can be said about the metaphysical. Philosophy of religion, ethics, can be fun like that, though i always found logic more enthralling since it doesn't always allow for non-empirical claims. Besides, these laws you speak of, are essentially still work in progress, (granted in the last 30 years great ground has been covered in that area.)

You should read about people who had near death experiences during failed suicide attempts.
