Reincarnation Evidence (Or collective conciousness)
    #10513950 -

This is a fox news clip and it contains one amazing story.  This 11 year old boy remembers being shot down as a pilot in WWII.  He goes backs and meets old veterans and knows their names.  He meets his former sister and shares knowledge only his former self knew.

Child's Nightmares and Memories Prove Reincarnation

So after seeing this story, what are everyone's thoughts on reincarnation?

I think It's pretty damn cool.  I believed Wiccan Seeker before this though.  But this kid just has way more damn proof for those skeptics.

--------------------
"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

I've always felt a strong resonance of truth in reincarnation.  Thanks for the link!

Well, it's about time these things start happening here. They have been going on forever in the east. Maybe this will help some to expand their spiritual conceptions.

Interesting.  Provided it's not a hoax, this either provides evidence for reincarnation or for some form of psychic powers.

It's true I was there and shot that little fucker down. I don't know how an eight year old got up in that plane. So he's eleven now, huh. I thought I killed that little bastard.

Once again I must point out that this is not *proof* of anything and I hope people will stop throwing that word around so nonchalantly.  No offense to you OP I know the clip is labeled as *proof* all around the web and you just put it here--but circumstantial evidence and testimony do not equate proof.

Also one needs to consider possibilities other than direct reincarnation.  To my mind it is equally likely that before we *incarnate* and after *death* everyone *is* everything in a sort of holographic overlay of hierarchical consciousness.

But while I was sitting on my porcelain throne yesterday morning (where the most profound epiphanies occur) after watching this show I had the thought that if reality was indeed a just and fair contraption then reincarnation and karma (or similar mechanics) must be applied.  Otherwise it really is a cold, random, unfair, shitty waste of time existence for many sentients in it...

I think people are too quick to jump for proof. Even while remaining open to the question a priori, it seems like the burden of a dimensional shift is too much. Or in other words, in the negative, I can be open to this kind speculation, but to connect karma with particular points in space or time, is pretty far fetched.

For instance, how convenient that this many lifetimes of concentrative practice, also manifested in the same cultural frame, let alone a window of 100 years, where the kid could further see what seems like a flaw in the system. (Whoops we spawned you in the same game.)

And I think the same people on the other side are too quick to falsify karma by these particular examples. To falsify or prove, does either advocate think they are such masters of emotions to conduct such an experiment?

Quote:
Like Great works, deep feelings always mean more than they are conscious of saying. The regularity of an impulse or a repulsion in a soul is encountered again in habits of doing or thinking, is reproduced in consequences of which the soul itself knows nothing. Great feelings take with them their own universe, splendid or abject. They light up with their passion an exclusive world in which they recognize their climate. There is a universe of jealousy, of ambition, of selfish, or of generosity. A universe- in other words, a metaphysic and an attitude of mind. What is true of already specialized feelings will be even more so of emotions basically as indeterminate simultaneously as vague and as "definite," as remote and as "present" as those furnished us by beauty or aroused by absurdity.

That was fucking strange.

Reincarnation is not something that is "provable" in consensus reality.

I don't claim to know either way.

Some of you guys cling on to the "skeptic" label like it is some kind of badge of honor.  Is "skepticism" some kind of religion?  It certainly seems dogmatic enough.

I am personally inclined to see reincarnation as being a real phenomenon.

Skepticism is a great place for pretentious folk that want to sit on a fence and look real smart.

Hmm maybe what you are describing is about on par with what is on this can of almonds here:

"Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts such as almonds, as a part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease."

I was actually just sort of wondering what this means anyway.

It means that companies in the food business are scared of the F.D.A. fucking with them if they mention that food can have health benefits.

The F.D.A. is in bed with Big Pharma.  Hilarious given that Big Pharma isn't in the business of preventing or curing disease, just treating symptoms.

Just shows you how immoral government regulators are.  Bunch of jack booted thugs if you ask me.

The "East" can be quoted all day for giving credence and support to the feasibility of reincarnation. Or maybe if another billion little brown people believe in it, it will come true? Strength in numbers they say.

The people I encountered in north India seemed to agree with me that much a do about reincarnation can be boiled down to metaphors concerning repeating patterns in human experiences; the resolution of attachments, the birth and death of beliefs, laws of nature that fluctuation in an up and down motion (resembling the death process), etc.

It is yet again just another manifestation of the panta rhei--all flows--concept that was born from Heraclitus in the West.

One still has to ask a fairly important question. Is the supreme, divine mystery that moves the cosmos so petty that it finds solace in taking a boat ride to visit the crash site?

James, by the way, is a pretty good guess for a soldier boy. And the frequency statistics actually correlate the popularity of the name with the war dates quite closely:

(Source: WolframAlpha.com)

It's equivalent to saying Keith is a pedophile. Most likely he is, with a name like Keith.

Of course, I'm being a smartass. The kid in the video knew very specific details that seem unaccounted for by random chance.

Thus: Reincarnation exists. And God. The end.

I am not entirely sure what you mean by all of that, but your attitude seems very colonialistic to me.

Suppose that the east is simply quoted because that is where the concept typically comes from? To that, one would hope that contrasting voices may be heard rather than marginalized in discourse. Are you suggesting an alternative to that?

Then, you recall a few acquaintances from the area, and based on their agreement, "boil down" the whole culture? Perhaps your acquaintances with these folk had more to do with your particular similar mindedness, than the depth of that entire culture.

Yea, I am aware that exoticism tends make westerners somewhat overly liberal with their some of their faculties, but I would say a pretense to that is much worse.

I think you offer a pretty good surface level interpretation, but it seems to me that you are also stepping way out of that depth in many of your offhand remarks.
