I don't think anyone is totally evil, but the compassion part I question.  I question it when I see certain members post certain comments that seem entirely bereft of compassion.  I have to tell you, I think "sociopath."  I can also tell you that I've seen worse on Christian message boards from "Christians."

But most of all I question it with regard to my compassion.  If compassion is merely an emotion, there are times when I should have it, and I don't.  I'm not ashamed of this.  I accept myself with all my flaws.  Still, it is a curiosity to me.  I can weep for a lost puppy, but be ice cold when someone I view as an asshole finally "gets their comeuppance."

For my part in ViBrAnT's suicide I took it particularly hard for two solid reasons.

1)  I was on staff at the time and was a moderator here, worse;
2)  I was a trained suicide interventionist. 

I don't wallow in guilt and self-recrimination, but, as they say, those are the facts.  If I ever failed as a moderator some might say that is the place.  Let us hope these moderators never have to be where I was.

You, for your part, were quite a leader in your own right.  You had the respect of many.  Those were, in some sense, a great time.  Yet, you too, with all your Swami-like powers, though you could see the inevitable, weren't able to stop it.  Just stand at the sidelines like the swimmer going over the edge at Yosemite.

I shudder.
