Effexor experiences needed.
    #8459509 -

Hey, this thread applies only to those who taken effexor for atleast a month.

Basically, I've been on the medication since August of last year. I figure it stopped working last december when I tried balancing 30 hours of work, full time college student, friends, parties and anything else.

That's not why Im here. I'd actually like to know about everyone's "come-up" experiences on the drug.  Basically, when did you start noticing the effects of the drug in your body?

I personally started feeling different by the 3rd and 4th days. Anyways, weeks 2-5 were probably my favourite weeks while experiencing this SNRI. I felt fucking godly to say the least. I fucking loved it at that time, even with the negative aspects it brought along. Reduced hunger, super irritated, sleep deprived; there's probably others but there not as apparent atleast as these were.

After a month and a half I was probably totally balanced out, where the drugs effect found a healthy medium. I was still able to work without any problems. Mind you shortly after I stopped becoming productive.

So anyways, whats your experience coming up on this drug? Did it make you basically hypomanic? I'm just trying to research different medications I've tried to see if everyone else seems to get the same affects of if Im needing something completely different.

Thanks

I took effexor years ago, for about a year. My experience may or may not have been tainted by the constantly changing other Rx's I was on. I was irritable, and impulsive, running away from home skipping school, later I walked out on two jobs without notice, and was very hard to be around according to my family. I thought I was supreme throughout the time I was on it, not only always right, but on a higher level then others. I was eventually taken off of it because of a strange side-effect, profuse facial sweating. And after moving out of my parents home, at the age of 20, I stopped taking all psychiatric meds (under the supervision of a willing psychiatrist of course), and finally experiencing life instead of medicating it.

Effexor is decent, it has tolerance/dependance issues, so make sure you taper down if you ever quite.

Don't listen to the jackasses here who will come on and cite studies that don't say what they think they say (they've never read them) or who decide the drug is evil and made by bad people. (the same folks who use similar drugs, mushrooms, as SSRI's)

After awhile the effectivness drops a bit, likely tolerance issues, but its a solid drug. There is a problem w/ mania activation, which you seem to be possibly describing, and its not all that useful for mildly depressed people, but has some signifigant, if small- depending on the study, effects for more seriously depressed folks.

In the end just figure out what it does for you. Even placebo effects are real, so if it helps you maintain long-term stability, cool.

I took this medication when I was 20, back in 2001, for OCD. I came up on the drug probably full strength within 3 weeks. It was pretty ineffective in retrospect.. I remember being on it full swing, and my OCD did not subside.. I think I was able to choose not to perform certain rituals, but there were just so many that I would end up doing 3/4 of them anyways. The side effects were kinda outrageous too, definitely prolonged orgasm, like way too long (its kind of like having a permanently numb penis), and the I had major dry mouth from time to time. Those were the two biggest drawbacks. I quit cold turkey after 4 or 5 months and never went back..

I thought my experience was rather hypomania, however, my psych said that it could feel that way due to a small ego. Which does make sense, if I was super depressed, etc, before that could just me feeling normal *shrug*

I also had the delayed orgasm. You are correct, numb penis sounds about right. :P

I dont think I could even cum the first two weeks on this stuff lol.

I am also coming off of it. Slowly, but surely.
