Post frequency graph
    #6421536 -

Hello,

Does there exist a feature that allows you to look at a graph of time vs. # of posts? It would be interesting to see what months/days people post the most.

I'd love something like that.

I just threw this together, is it what you had in mind?

Yes, that is the basic idea. I was thinking more of individual graphs per each user, with the time-axis user configurable.

Also, did you just connect values per day with lines or do post counts actually follow those linear segments? I'd imagine the actual post counts would look something like the stock market.

Is there the possibility of having refinement to the hour, or to the day? Also the ability to zoom out to per week, per month, or even per year.

It'd all be possible, but it would take a fair amount of work. In the end I expect it would be a toy that few people would use, and only for a few minutes. I think the opportunity cost for these features is too high to justify the time required. Note you can already get user stats by appending 'userid' to the end of the URL, eg to view my posts from last month:

Sorry, maybe after the IPO we'll have the manpower to throw at this kind of side-task. Or become a supporter and try asking again.

Yea I figured as much.

It's fairly straightforward with most database/data analysis programs but I don't know what database program you use or its features.

Thanks anyway.

It is pretty straight-forward, but coding the interface and logic for the various options ends up being labor-intensive anyway. I mean it's not the project of the century or anything, but it's an inordinate amount of work for an interesting but ultimately pointless tool. Maybe we need an API so people can access our raw data and write their own graphing interfaces. But talk about a lot of work, and ultimately pointless hehe.

There's one from big-boards that shows board stats and so-on, but its not at all viewable by user.

Ythan, I didn't want to start a new thread and this is the closest idea I can find to mine.

What I have would be extremely easy to write and implement. Just an average posts-per-day counter. Take the total number of posts a member has and divide by the total number of days a member has been registered and viola. You can put it right on the user profile page.

A forum or 2 I've belonged to in the past had this feature and I found it useful in knowing when to limit my posting, and also to get an idea as to who might be post-whoring. Please consider.

could it be made so that the post graph feature can be toggled on/off per personal preference please?

what do you mean?
you have to click on the little graph icon to actually see the graph so it´s not really intrusive.

I find this feature useless, as such I'd like to be able to turn it off.

I don't care to be graphed out in such a way, and no one needs a graph of my posting habits IMHO.

the option to turn it off completely should be implemented.

Hey Ythan, what is the measurement on the X axis? are the lines days or total time reg'd?
