We all know the post whores are our enemy. They are like hippies that are too dirty and dumb to be hippies. Like a dirty hippi that rolled around in a cow pie and got kicked in the head a couple hundred times. The post whores have a single objective. It is to increase their post count. To combat this we must make it difficult for them to accomplish their objective. I propose a four part attack.
First I suggest removing the requirement of 75 posts to rate to discourage the puppet abusers from whoring their puppets to rate people.
Secondly I suggest not allowing posts in otd to count towards post count.
Third I suggest only counting one post per thread towards the post count. (This means eliminating the huge post count from posts like the ^^^^ and the beer on the wall post).
Fourth I suggest removing the number of posts from under the users handle and simply having their registration date and location if they have one.
Only by banding together against our foe can we defeat them. We can no longer allow our the shroomery to be held hostage by a handfull of misguided liberal whores. It's time the post whores learned that we will not tolerate their whoredom in our community, that the najority still rules. We gotta do something... I mean, sure I admit that I post a lot when Im here, sometimes, but I dont post just to raise a count. I dont set a goal to rasie my count to a set number etc....
There is some debate as to what/if to do something. We shall see.

Very bad idea. We might as well get rid of ratings al together if we're gonna do that, because they'd be too influenced by legions of puppets. If you want to see more puppets than ever before, implement this rule.

We've been through this. The answer is no. Regardless of post whoring, I think post count is somewhat meaningful. At the very least it shows how much time the person spends on the Shroomery.

Liberal? Where did that come from? Since Doobie set up the OFFICIAL post whore thread, post whoring has fallen to an all time low. If you are trying to eliminate it completely, it will never happen. Especially if you're trying to do it by making all kinds of weird post count rules.
Whoring is really not that big of a problem anymore. It will always be around, not matter what arbitrary rules we implement, and the level it is at right now is not that bad. The Shroomery will never be a whore-free utopia, and I think your proposed rules won't make it any closer to being so.

Yup, they're liberal. Most whores are, or they wouldn't be whores, like Monica Lewinski.
I wouldn't say it's at an all time low. Maybe since school started the kids don't have as much time to play on their parent's 'puter. I expect the trend to reverse quite soon. And remember they're after one thing, status. Their post count gives them an artificial feeling of status in the community. Eliminate that and their motivation will shrivel up and die.

You do realize that if your one-post-per-thread rule were enforced, you would not be allowed to rebut my arguments, don't you? If it doesn't matter (I don't think it does either), then why implement these paranoid commandments of yours.
Here's my final argument:
The post count is not particularly meaningful; I like it, but won't cry if it disappears.
One post-per-thread is a terrible idea IMO, as it will eliminate any kind of debate and will result in many new and redundant threads being opened by people who want to express their opinion in spite of rules against doing so.
A few decidedly pointless threads (beer on wall, ^^^^) are completely harmless, self-contained, and entirely avoidable and ignorable. They aren't fuelled by the desire for a slightly higher post count as much as they are by generic silliness.
Inanity is a part of the Shroomery (and every other internet forum for that matter) and always will be, regardless of any rules made to eliminate it.
Truly rampant and annoying post whores can be given warnings and have their threads locked or deleted.

Seriously though I think maybe some truth needs to be said here.
After reading this thread you can totally see that Papaver and the rest of the whores do love their post count. They try oh so hard to play it cool but look how as soon as its mentioned half a dozen are quickly out of their holes to lay waste to a decent constructive thread. I wonder what these poor fools would do if they did not have the shroomery to spend their time on making silly posts. Maybe this is a haven for otherwise unproductive members of society and we're doing the world a favour.
I don't understand this though, Doobie's thread was the same as this and everybody said the opposite, that there wasn't any point implementing his suggestions so I find it strange that one month later we're here again with complete opposite points of opinion. Quite frankly I think it is too late for the posts in OTD to not count. I think post count in the cultivation forums has a modicum of relevance though I wonder if it really would matter. I would have to say that cleaning up OTD so people can actually talk in it would be nice without a bunch of socks, trousers and puppets making useless comments (often randomly hateful) would be nice though.
Its like a whole different group of people in OTD, half of them probably don't have a single interest in mushrooms atall. They've just found somewhere where they can nest. OTD is full of posts from random people I've never heard of anywhere but the OTD forum itself. I've been reading this board for a long time.. since '98 so I know what I'm talking about. Sure, you've never heard of me but thats because I don't unnecessarily post and my 'status' that I held here is gone. Who knows where it went, but it went.
Anyway, I'll leave it to you to figure out something. It would be nice if a MOD such as papaver would have a constructive comment or opinion - not worthless babble about the sheer dimensions of his post count (which isn't that big compared to the king of them all - PGF). I am aware that trusted members of the community have their own private forum (Cheers) and I thought that the mods here would not do much to OTD because cheers is the more true OTD forum here at the shroomery. Its just a shame that more people don't have access.

Flood control is definitely a solution.
If you could turn flood control on in individual forums I would say bunk it to atleast 2 minutes in OTD (it would be great if it was forum specific, flood control is only needed in one forum).
If it cannot be implemented to only OTD then it really can't be any more than 1 minute or you're going to be making people wait for genuine posts.
Papaver: As a mod and a postwhore you are ruining OTD by condoning the lameness. Bottom line: You don't deserve the position you're in, you're a waste of space. I'm sure you can grow up.
Dare I say make a post whore forum and move all post whore mods to there and bring in some real mods to make OTD about OTD not about how much babble somebody can post.

If you think OTD is full of useless garbage, I suggest you get lost. Really. The Internet is a big place, and I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find The Great Utopian Bulletin Board, where people aren't allowed to talk about silly or (gasp!) inconsequential topics, and every thread fits your description of worthwhile reading.
I'm truly sorry if you believe that adding more rules and restrictions will transform OTD into a place worthy of your superior standards. Your objection to inanity and silliness is just that: yours. I think inanity has its place, and it is almost entirely contained within one forum. The presence of decidedly silly threads in no way prevents legitimate discussion of other topics. If the current state of OTD is somehow unbearable to you, then follow the wise Mr Mushrooms' example; stay out.
Post whoring is an altogether different issue, and a very minor one. If you really believe that OTD is mostly post-whore threads, then I don't know what to tell you. Very few users post solely to raise their post counts, as fun and easy as it is to complain about.

Bottom line is this: any proposed 'cure' for post whoring is bound to be much worse than the disease. It's the same philosophy as the DEA's; eventually they'll get ALL the drugs, right? The Shroomery is a great place as it is, and I would hate to see the freedom we have here compromised because some malcontents can't silently ignore posts they don't like.

You all seem to consider my comment to Papaver as important so I will clarify what I mean, strange that the most light comment I made (and an insult can never be more than light in terms of value) is the one you choose to pick up on.
I'm sure Papaver has some decency to him and I respect his way of thinking regarding maintaining the child within. I am easily the most immature person I know and I'm proud of this, but in a thread where we are discussing a member's discontent on this postwhoring I consider his previous posts here to be pure babble. When I made the comment I had hoped to extract some reaction from him to maybe stand up and say what he thinks and maybe he did.. so as far as I'm concerned the comment served its purpose.
