I don't have any graphs to share, but I can tell you for certain that there is much more traffic here than back in 1999.

New users in past 24 hours 18
New users in past 7 days 185
New users in past month 812

Users that have logged in the past 24 hours 907
Users that have logged in the past 7 days 2132

The snapshot of data I have of September:

60565 uVisitors
32443884 Hits @ 125.95 GB

The number 1 Visitor used 7.66 GB.
Number 10 used 279.64 MB MB.

GIF: 20633873 hits  (63.5 % @ 34.18 GB)
JPG:  5122526 hits  (15.7 % @ 37.96 GB)
PHP:  4769086 hits  (14.6 % @ 42.58 GB)

At first glance the numbers dont make sence, the % is the percent of hits, not the % of data sent.

This what you lookin for geo?

PS:  Thanks for the kind words in the rating

Does anyone know how much OTD takes up (traffic wise) on its own? Id be willing to guess between 1/4 and 1/3. Perhaps reaching the 1/2 mark, ecspecially with those picture heavy threads like "boobies", the three different "show your skin" threads in different forums...

Nothing against OTD but there are how many forums?  And HALF the load and bw utilization comes from the one forum?

I have no proof, but I would suspect the recent problems with the server have some kind of connection to OTD.  I dont think that OTD should go or anything, just that the people that frequent it should try to show some respect to the owners of the site (thank you 3d, thor, geo, and the other one  ) by being a little bit more bandwidth and load freindly.

If the problems are related to load from OTD, I'd have no choice but to say OTD should either be temporarly closed, or some serious restrictions put into place, text only sigs, picture only avatar, 5 threads, and 75 posts in any 24 hour period.  But I dont pay the bills so I'm just talkin out my ass =P

There was a user a while back I comented on being a post whore, a member for two weeks and just hit 2000 posts, the other day my car was gone so I pretty much had nothing to do, so I whored it up here, I barly managed to get 50 posts and, for the most part, all still had relevent usefull information.

Anno: havnt you wanted OTD shut down for a while now, what are your current thoughts?

Shut down? No.

Delete old posts in OTD periodicaly and regulary? Yes, that would be something!

Too bad I?m alone on this front....

Nah, your not alone.

All the forums should prolly be truncated and all, but OTD, archived.

i dont understand why you would be alone on this issue....i mean why keep around old threads nobody looks at that just take up space? sounds like a good idea to me...

but then again, i dont know the whole story...and hardly ever go into OTD, so im pretty much in the dark on this issue.... im just wondering why you feel you dont have any support on your idea... is there a reason that they feel the need to keep these threads around?

Well, it?s that the owners and administrators of theis site don?t feel that this would be appropriate, although one could even selectively delete posts based on the age and the number of thread views(which is a pretty good indicator of the popularity(~quality) of a thread.)

Re: Collective Data Graph [Re: wrestler_az]
    #2075770 -

Just because a thread isn't popular doesn't mean it doesn't hold a piece of usefull information... Many of the threads were popular back in the day if they had 5 posts in it...

These post are a part of shroomery history, should be burn all history books aswell because they take up space?

Cmon...you don?t keep chat logs neither for years, and OTD is just that, a chat on a board.

Oh, as for the history....

Most old threads are gone anyway through updates and mishaps and whatnot.

So I can?t see what is wrong with to SELECTIVELY get rid of the ballast.

Anno said:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: This is a great idea.  If we have the ability to specify from which time period, in addition to how many views a thread had in each individual period we ran the clean sweep on.. then what's the problem?  For posts prior to 2001, maybe the cutoff would be 30 views; prior to 2002, 75 views; prior to 2003, OTD has sucked since then so let's just tank 'em all

Really though, I've been in support of this idea ever since Anno mentioned it months ago.  I wouldn't like to see an entire block of posts deleted, but by specifying a date range and minimum view value, I think that will save us a lot of space.  Many of my posts are in OTD, however most of those posts were made over a year ago.  The rate at which the forum moves these days is concurrent with the chat room as Anno said.  Why the fuck do we have a forum for chatting when we have a chat room for that?

The only constant is change...  :print:
I'm not going to whine and bitch if nothing is done (as is evident by my lack of whining and bitching when this idea was shut down last year) - but I will say that it is an excellent idea set in the best interests of the community at large and particularly applicable when one considers our mission statement.

The problem is its not the space being taken thats an issue, its the cluttering of the db file that has to seek through all the crap to get to the usefull stuff

>> For posts prior to 2001, maybe the cutoff would be 30 views; prior to 2002, 75 views; prior to 2003

And i have to laugh about this, your saying to cut before 2001 at 30, but in the last one PRIOR to 2003 (meaning everything before) should be dumped =P

But yeah i get whatcha mean

Stop being so technical... of course you knew what I meant :crazy2:

.. and as I understand it, the server has run out of hard disk space a few times now.  Perhaps not due to board activity, but hey getting rid of all that crap couldn't hurt, eh?

I also agree with you Anno. There are tons of usless threads that could be dumped to free up space.

obviously OTD has site appeal., its the 'popular' forum perse.
its what gets all the traffic.
isnt that what ANY site is looking for?
i think the Admins need to accept OTD 'as is' or delete the forum.
imo, deleting the forum is a kamikaze risk...
regarding deleting threads to save space,i agree with 3dshroom on this one. i agree with any oldschool Admin, they know whats best.
I think these new admins are bored and are trying too hard
to make a difference.

You seem not to realize that there aren?t any posts in OTD older than 2.5 years.
This site exists for 6 years.
What do you think happened with the older posts?
