I dont know what to say. It is a tragedy and its never easy to lose someone. It makes you reconsider lots of things about your life. I would also like to say that it is no ones fault other than ripper. No desrespect intended, but when someone dies the blame game is quick to rise, and people feel guilty...His parents are probably a wreck. Dont let it happen. RIP

I only chatted with him a few times on AIM, so I didn't really know him, but he seemed like a nice guy. Death is always hardest on the friends and family -- the deceased is at peace now, and hopefully in a better place. He's gone on to do a little recon for us all in the great beyond...

I'm going to miss Brandon and our friendship. He had a lot of troubles and I even not long ago told him that I was worried about the drugs; he assured me he knew what he was doing. :frown:

He even talked about coming up to visit me soon and now that friend is gone because of god damn drugs  :mad:

I will miss him a lot, as much as anyone can make friends with someone online; I did get to know him pretty well.

My condolances to those who knew him best, and especially to his Mother who must be having a really difficult time right now.

I hope his death can at least shock some of you who are taking lots of drugs carelessly; because I don't want to hear of anyone else doing this to themselves!

Fuck drugs, please don't use them unless you are being safe :frown:

I won't pretend ripper was a great friend of mine. But he is part of our family here and I will miss him presence in irc. If only he was bullshitting like we all thought he was. :frown:

I've read many of his posts, but I never talked to him directly. He did indeed seem to be a very bright person.

Now that he's gone, I wish I had taken the time to get to know him better.

i'm not surprised because of all the drugs he did, he was pretty far gone and had been like that for a while. still i met him once a year ago through other shroomerites who were friends with him at the time. This is sad, i'll miss him

Holy shit, that is fucking horrible, I was praying all day at school Id come home and he'd be online. We were getting really close. He'd call me all the time, and we hung out and partied a few times, hed drive all the way down from tempe just to hangout with me.

I knew it was true last night, I could just feel it. I had a REALLY hard time at school today, I was gonna go home, and that was before I even knew for sure he had passed away.

This is a real reality check for me. It gets me thinking about my drug abuse. I was dieing from a heroin and cocaine OD, but somehow I survived even though the docs said there was no way in hell id live, and if i did i'd be a total vegie, and Im continuing to use. Me and Ripper took 2 80mg OC's each one night chewed one and swallod the other with zero tolerance ( i knew it was stupid as hell at the time but he kinda talked me into it) and I vomited on myself in my sleep. I couldve died from choking on my vomit, or the respiratory depression. He did always push things to the limit. But he was a great guy, a good friend, a big part of this community and a blast to hang out with. He will truley be missed.

I did not know Brandon,but I had two good friends die from opiates and benzos combined.Bad combo, its unfortunate we think were imortal when it comes to hard drugs sometimes.the human body is so fragile.god bless and god speed amen! :crazy:

I will greatly miss him. Unfortunately I never got to meet him, tho he was planning to come out to nyc and I was going to show him around. I already miss his incessant rambling. "Sure Ripper" "OK there Ripper" "Uh huh Ripper". It was part of his charm. I really liked the kid, and its a damn fucking shame. He was brilliant in his own right, too bad it wasn't in the common sense department.

I would have said something to him about his benzo use, but it doesn't do any good. I have learned this over and over again. I am going to make a post in od about klonopins, maybe other shroomerites will take notice......

It's my understanding he did a lot for the site.
Life just passes by so quick.....
We can look on the bright side and be cheerful he made it (that's what my grandma told me before she died, she said don't cry, clap, jump up and down, and be happy for her, because she needed a rest, which maybe he needed, or he was finished letting go of everything)

Holy shit. I can't believe this. I used to be really good friends with him, he helped me out with linux a lot, gave me an account on his site... Shitfuck. I can't believe this. I feel guilty because I haven't been on IRC in months, I never got a chance to say goodbye to him. I kind of just left things open; unfinished. I remember the time that he gave me his calling card number so I could call up the guy who fucked up the shroomery and tell him off. Man this is horrible. I wan't him back :frown:
The last time I talked to him was when he set me up an account on his site.

I wouldn't say I knew the guy that well, but hearing of any loss of life saddens me very much.

I kind of feel horrible now being a member of this drug site when we know people die from them on a fairly regular basis, in situations just like this one. At least he's in a better place.

I echo Shroomism here! I've seen a lot of death, and I've been pretty close several times -- try me on this if you want to -- I feel saddest for his friends and family. However, the Ripman is just fine! He's just in another space, an unknown one, but that's ok... :laugh:

I guess it depends on the individual, but I've never thought too much about it -- it's a journey and exploration -- the only bummer is surviving and spending nine months in a hospital with a lot of hand-wringing friends and family surrounding you... I guess that is selfish, but come on people!

I didnt know ripper as well as some. All i remember is that he stood out in IRC as a really good guy who always had something intresting to say and was always fun to talk to. This place won't be the same without him i'm sure. RIP Ripper.

This really sucks!! I didn't know Ripper, but that don't fucking matter to me. I'm still very upset and moved, because I'm sure I would have liked the guy. I just hate to hear about overdose deaths, such a big rip-off, the guy just wanted to get high and he was ripped off with death instead. I think more needs to be done here and at certain other sites to differentiate between naturally occurring halucinogens and dangerous stimulants and depressants. For the loss of our friend ripper, I'd like to think that the Other Drugs forum has helped avoid many other deaths.

If you research the archives of OD from about a year ago,
it seems there were more people interested in curbing/ eliminating
the spread of misinformation on some of the more dangerous drugs.

A lot of those people are gone. I hate to say it,
but if some of those people would have been around
to help educate Ripper (without being assholish about it)
he may not have done what he did.

Maybe some of those people will return, or others

With regards to changing people's attitudes and/or differentiating between hallucinagens and stims/deps I think that in reality most people in these forums have made their decisions about drugs, and that's that. I am a little pragmatic at times but I know that if this place somehow got all preachy about stims/deps I would probably chuckle a little.
The term gateway drugs comes to mind, but just as someone who progresses to harder drugs from softer ones usually has a problem, then trying to tell those people that they shouldn't is kind of like preaching to the choir: those who can listen already agree with you, whereas those with addictive personalities who reach out to harder drugs are not in a situation to listen.
There will always be drug overdoses, not matter if you ban them, educate about them or accept them. I personally believe, as I had a childhood friend descend into the clandestine world of hard drug abuse and subsequent OD death, that it is not a matter of what can we do to stop it, but accepting it as a tragedy that is an unfortunate reality of the human condition.

I applaud all those who express sympathy, and also applaud those who seek change to avoid this happening again, but people's homes are a better place to find change, not a mushroom growing chat shack.

I hope I did not offend anyone who knew Ripper, or someone else who has perished thusly.

This is a true loss, as it is when anyone (or anything) passes.  :frown:It makes it all the more hard to deal with when it is someone that we've all come to know. We need to educate people who visit this site more about the effects, positive and negative, of the consumption of different kinds of drugs first, before we teach them how to produce or aquire them. Just my two cents though, cause I never, EVER want to see anything like this happen again. It is a terrible thing to say, but maybe some of us around here can use this horrible example to learn from. I'm very upset over Rippers death...I ended up crying too.
I send my condolences to his friends and family.

I OD'd several times when I was younger from messing around with too many drugs.
Ending up in the Emergency Room at Harbor View...dying on the table once... being brought back to life... then going back out and abusing drugs again and again.

16 years ago I stopped using anything...including alcohol...I needed to clean up my life...and I did.
3 years ago...I started having a few beers and smoking a little weed again.
2 years ago...I started doing mushrooms again.
I really don't over do these now...I learned my lesson years ago.
I learned to respect them.

I have 2 kids....I want to watch them grow up.
Today I want to live...there was a time in my life that I felt like I was bulletproof.
I look back on my using/abusing days and wonder why I'm still alive.

I think about how I could have died like Ripper.
It deeply saddens me that he will never experience some of the things that I have been allowed to see and do in my life.
I makes me sick knowing that he probably won't be the last member here to die from abusing drugs.

I have been a little emotional since last night...and waited to post this.

I know this is a drug site...but its not a drug abuse site.
Please...I'm begging you not to be the next fallen member.
If you have a problem with drugs...Please get some help!

I just heard about this thread a few minutes ago. I feel bad, altho I never knew him.... It's just that I can clearly recall when I first seen him online (and many other times).... It seemed like he just poped up one day, and some were wondering who he was. At that time some where acusing him of being Thor's puppet on the Forest site (at least one person did)... But one could easily see that ripper had a diferent personality.

Ripper seemed very very smart, but he seemed to live a risky life based on a couple of his posts...

I wish that I seen this thread sooner.... I hate just now finding out.  :frown:

Okay, I am also pretty pissed off about all this. But in no way shape or form is this place all about the money. These guys barely make enough to keep the server online and for a long while they didnt even make that much. I do agree that a bit more needs to be done about not incouraging the use of drugs to extremes and chemicals should just not really be included. This site did not make the decisions of an individual and there is a reason that everything happens. Perhaps as a leading online drug community, we should take steps. Maybe that should be a link section to other sites that are informative, places that focus on other drugs and perhaps have more people there that know the tolls they can take and offer wisdom and see signs better,-- Ill get it together if the other drug forum is removed.

I've talked to ripper on many an occasion in the last 3 years. Although I cannot say I knew of his hearts desires, and I have not been around lately to watch the spiral into harder drug use. Perhaps it was always there, but I assure you it was never this balls out there. He was intelligent, misguided, looking for the same escapes, excitements and realities that we all are. I'm sorry I wasnt here that night. Because frankly, I would have phoned the police and I hope in the future if anything like this occurs we take it seriously, now I understand the deeds of people in the past and cannot believe this happened. I dont mean to preach I just dont think any of this shit is worth dying for and I hate the society that makes us feel like we cannot report something because we could get in trouble-- but trouble is sure as hell better then death. Regardless of that you dont know how great death could be shit, we were made to live. Pnut died on Feb 5th of 1999 and by god I hope we are not doomed to repeat these things over and over again. I only hope that there is some peace for Brandon.

I don't belive i crossed path's with "ripper" in my short time here at the shroomery, but I feel for any close friends of his, and any one else grieving his passing.... But chance's are he had a good soul, and he's living it up somewhere in his new body..

I just found out tonight from Doob, and this is the worst possible thing that could happen.  I've talked to ripper on IRC but didnt "know" him.  I pray that this does not happen again. 

Take a good look at yourself, if you do half of what he did, get some help.  Let's all try to keep this sort of thing a rarity and not a rising statistic.

I don't frequent the boards since a long time but I decided to log in to pay my respects to ripper aka Brandon.
I've known ripper online for around 3 years and even though we weren't the closest of friends we had a good relationship and helped each other out. He even planned to come and visit me sometime.
Ripper was a smart kid who could have accomplished a lot. But, to reasons unknown to me, he needed to find an escape, which he did in drugs. I've seen him go down a path of increasing use of pharmaceutical drugs for which i warned him repeatedly, but was still shocked to find out how far it ultimately came.

You will be missed. This shouldn't have happened.

As sad as I feel concerning his death, ripper was unbelievably cocky when it came to mixing drugs of high doses, and apparently not as intelligent as he normally was when he needed it the most ...

Though I think it's COMPLETELY wrong in the way everybody who was present acted, I know ripper would have taken everything he did no matter whether people were cheering him on or telling him to stop.

People need to learn from his mistakes ... taking drugs just to see how much you can take before something happens is unbelievably idiotic, and his style of taking them altogether in unbelievable doses is the hallmark of a person with real problems. His need to "rippercam" his drug-taking shows that he thought drugs made him cool, which in my opinion is beyond pathetic.

I send my condolences to his family.

i haven't been to the shroomery in a while and was very saddened to hear that not only the other drugs forum is gone, but we've lost another shroomerite to carelessness, depression, stupidity, or whatever the problem was. i didn't know him (only that he ran the klonopinz website) so i can't say what his case was. i read the irc logs and was very dissappointed in what happened and how some can't see a cry for help, but instead antagonize. i mean who would mix a bunch of inderal with so many drugs on purpose unless they were looking for their heart to explode? i don't know exactly what to say because i don't want to offend anyone or make a generalization that i can't back up. I guess all i can say is love each other and be compassionate, because life is so precious.

After reading this story here for so long, my attention was grabbed when this finally made a small entry in the London press (free 'Metro' rag, distributed on the underground) today. It just said that he took a cocktail of drugs while people watched on his webcam and egged him on. It suggested that these idiots may be charged.

No explicit mention of the shroomery.

Poor sod. He looked really young in the picture. :frown:

My Gods... Been away for a while and only learned this yesterday. Poor, poor Brandon; didn't really know you but what happened... My soul cries writing this as my eyes have reading the logs of his last hour on this earth.

I've read, printed; reread those logs over and over again and am left wondering why. Why so many? Why so much? Why so close together? Did the Opioids wash out your clarity of mind or did they cloud the life/death issue altogether?

I really think people should quit the blame game and look inward.
Think really hard about what you're into and what you really know about it.
And what you would remember of this at full blast.

I hope Brandon's family and friends can find peace with their tragic loss.
I hope we Shroomerites will act and advise more responsibly than before.
I most strongly believe Brandon's Soul is immortal and will live on.

seriously, why do you insits on picking scars? it's really tragic that he lost his life, however it's kind of a sore spot. we have woken up so to speak, this incident has affected us all. some changes where made to our community because of it.

I can say, without any doubt at all, that this brave and reckless young man's ultimate life lesson, his overdose, has saved many lives, both for people here on this site and on the countless news outlets worldwide that covered his story in all forms of media. Thank you to everybody to posted on here or anywhere else, and thanks to Brandon for teaching us all, the hardest way possible, that these things happen regardless of how much knowledge and experience is under your belt. He told us he was hardcore, and there should be no questions about that. For anybody who missed this tragic story the first time around, please check it out because your life might be the one that needs to be saved next by Ripper.

This is the kind of thread necromancy I can approve of.

I actually knew Ripper pretty well at the time of his death, as far as random internet friends go. I chatted with him on IRC frequently, and he remains one of like three members total that I ever talked to on the phone. He knew a lot about computers and we were thinking about collaborating on a project.

And not just computers. He knew a lot about a lot of things actually. That's what gets to me. Ripper was a very smart guy. You won't realize that if all you see is the chat log from the night of his death, or mostly know him by his infamous (almost) final words. But he was an intelligent, rational, skilled individual. If he was any different from me or you, I'd say it's because he was more bright and gifted, not less. But he messed with the wrong drugs, pushed himself too far, and ultimately made one stupid mistake that cost him his life.

I guess my point is, don't think only idiots or fuckups can overdose. Ripper is the last person I'd have thought would let it happen, but he did. Whatever aspect it is in one's personality that makes them prone to O.D., don't think that just "being smart" is enough protection. You need self-control, the ability to indulge with moderation, and a trusted supplier, at the very least. If you lack any of these things, I would personally stay away from recreational drugs that have real potential to kill you. Hopefully, like me, Ripper's death got a few people to stop and think, "there but for the grace of god go I..."

Surprised to see this thread pop up in my "threads" recent link, this is an old one.

I chatted with Brandon (Ripper) many times on IRC and once on the phone, helping him with the website he was working on at the time. I was not on the night it happened, but talked with him the night before. I was so taken aside when I heard, he was a smart kid and everone in IRC just loved when he came in.

This is why I slowly faded away from the shroomery. Was not real thrilled with this.. After the John Walsh show I started thinking to myself, do I really want to be involved with "this". People cheering someone on, to take as many pills as possible, etc. It was very depressing, discouraging, and unfortunate. I ended up taking a break from the lifestyle for a long time. Just drank, and smoked some reefer here and there. Not to say there isn't a ton a awfulness associated with drinking :tongue:

Crazy thing is at another forum (movie forum), I ran into people that knew Ripper. They were also aware, and around for the IRC stuff. They said stuff like "we don't need another Ripper" on our hands here. Was a really big deal, and it affected more people than I realized. It also reminded me of the shroomery, so I decided to check it out again.

Gotta say there are alot of underage posters (13-15) routinely asking for drug dosage advice here. Kids intelligence hasn't really increased over the last decade, so I do think there is a chance of this repeating itself.

RIP Brandon. hanky you are right. I never got involved with pills in College even though they were everywhere, because I would think back, think of ripper and simply lose interest. We still think about you, man. It's crazy how something like that can have a bit of an effect on the lives of so many people.
