Often enough to warrant full moderation, I've personally been given links to numerous threads that are shining examples of this problem.

YOU know :smile: Again, what is the problem, the good topics/discussions go on as usual.. The only difference being mods have to review them first, and with the amount of mods and admins we have there is little delay from when a post is made and when its approved.

Well again if this is a bad thing people will realize it and the shroomery will move to a non fully moderated forum. But then why not give this a chance before you criticize it and see what happens.

I just think personally that Other drugs and the attitude of so many people about prescription drugs, research chems, etc.. Is taken WAY too lightly and that so many people are trying new drugs and finding new ways of getting high without realizing the seriousness of what they are doing.

In a sense its russian roulette, and if the shroomery can do its best to promote safe and responsible use then it should do all it can to do just that.

Recently one of the smartest people on the issue of 'other drugs' PhreeX from bluelight.nu ODed and shortly there after a private forum dedicated to Other drugs shut its doors for good.

I'm betting that webmaster is starting to wonder the same thing that I am about how our youth today is taking so many terrible risks with drugs that I in my youth never had to deal with.

The fact remains the US drug war has created a generation of pill poppers and its starting to become more apparent with any kid who feels sad being prescribed anti-depressants that a huge problem is brewing for the next decade.

I feel horribly for those who are dealing with the front lines of this new form of drug abuse, because it is terribly dangerous and worst of all it stems from prescribed drugs.

Stop being so pessimistic man!  It's been but a few minutes and you're acting as if we've just ruined the forum :confused:

Do the mods have some sort of helping ability not available to the normal users? ... I'm not talking about lethal overdoses here, I am talking about very very uncomfortable experiences where you want to talk to someone that you KNOW has been through the same thing
We will not be restricting threads of this manner.  If a user is just having a bad experience mentally, of course we will open the thread for public discussion.  But in regards to serious issues where a person's life is at stake, they shouldn't be sitting on a message board waiting for people to answer their questions - they should be talking to a doctor.

When OD was originally closed, full moderation was considered to help reinstate the forum but we decided we'd try to give it a go without taking it to that extent and see how it turned out.  In the beginning things were going great - but as time went on, people forgot about the Search function and redundancy was extreme.  Additionally, there were many off-topic comments and some misinformation flying around.  Our efforts are simply to provide a better interactive resource for our membership, not to alienate you from a forum you enjoy.

No you ruined the forum a long time ago :smile: But I guess it will make stuff a little less on the stupid side and make for more intellectual conversation (I Hope).

Thanks for the nice debate geokills and Thor. You guys better be dealing me up some light hearted drug discussion somewhere or I will go insane :smile:

Give it a chance, don't stop posting in the ODD forum, were not going to delete lighthearted replies to topics, this is not a Gestapo measure.

So now it takes an hour for a response to come through in ODD. That will slows everything down. Can't even have a normal discussion..
About redundant posts, that's not an exclusive for ODD. Almost ervery post on this forum has been said before or can be found on google. You might as well close the whole thing down then (sarcasm)
Anyway it's your forum ofcourse and you're free to screw it up.

Not here to debate the issue, but has anyone thought about moderating posters, rather than each individual post? I came here to post a suggestion, but found this thread on a similar subject. Use the shroomery for reference, and try to help less experienced growers when I have some extra time. I know which posts to take seriously, and I eliminate unnecessary posts by searching for related posts containing advice from successful established growers.
Maybe we could have a forum for approved posters only, supplying CREDIBLE info, and allowing no questions. Since many legal concerns stem from inappropriate use by minors, maybe access to the forum could be limited to adults in some way.
Criteria for acceptable posters could be determined by a combination based on various factors - extent of mycology knowledge and/or experience, length of active participation in the OMC. Of course, site sponsors should be pre-approved. Rather than identify posters by a username, they could be identified by number (possibly in a way to designate the extent of the posters' knowledge & ongoing contribution to the community) or the forum could be set up to accept anonymous posts.
Just an idea.....

The idea is good in theory, but it will create an 'elitest' attitude I'm afraid, which would upset some members... though that's not even my primary concern.  What is, is that this new forum in being inaccessable to other users, would hold a wealth of information that most people could never find! :frown:

Actually, our entire site is an adult-only site.  If you read through our policy links at the bottom of each and every BB page, you'll notice that we do not allow users under the age of 18 years.

The idea is good, but it's just difficult to implement and most people aren't fond of restrictions.
