yeah whatever....didn't think you had anything intelligent to say....too immature.....

i stuck around MC after I learned to grow and I answered the newbie's questions.....and then I moved on, something you can't seem to do....and being that you can not move on now that you no longer wish to help newbies...you seek to impose ridiculous roadblocks to keep newbs from posting......
I'm sure you'll respond with all the wisdom of a "Go back to your OTD hole.... " or the likes.

>now that you no longer wish to help newbies

Who sais I don?t want to help them? Check out how many times I posted in the Mushroom Cultivation in the last week.
I want to help them becoming self supporting(in terms of knowledge) growers, not coming back to the forum to ask a question for each and every small problem, but to learn how to use the available ressources.(all of them, also the forums). The forums are here to be used, but in a proper manner.

One can learn much more by UNDERSTANDING a thing than by questioning every detail and never get the whole picture.
And this UNDERSTANDING won?t come if you don?t think for yourself but relly on the help of others to help you.
Help to SELF HELP is the keyword here. And this includes pointing the newbies to the ressources already available.

Enough said.

Well said Anno.

A splash screen is an awesome idea. I just dont see a problem with directing newbies to a screen wich will answer the next 10-20 questions that they're about to post. Almost all repeats too.

PGF, how is it discouraging to show newbies the answers to the questions they have? Are you saying that they're gonna see the splash screen with the links on it to the FAQ and PF TEK and so on and get mad and never come back? Do you believe that?

The splash screen could do nothing but help. It would help newbies by showing them the answers they need right away and it would help the ones(myself included) who answer questions in the MC forum.

How is this a bad idea? Am I missing something? Why isn't this already in place?

why hasn't it happened yet then?

Thor does not agree with you, yet you have a red name too....it's cause you suck and Thor is now questioning his decision to make you admin....esp., after that remark about killing OTD...selfish canadian.......just step down....you have nothing to offer as an admin...you've proven that...."I would delete OTD" yeah, ok.....

I'm sure you are a great person and help out many anewbie, but your comments in this post just show that you are not administrator material......

goodbye

Wow, I think adding Anno was one of the best things we've done. He's done so much already with compiling the FAQ and putting together the shroomery bookstore.

Just because I may not fully agree with him here, doesn't mean I respect him and his opinions.... Anno has always been one of the most helpfull people in mushroom cultivation answering peoples questions.

He is entitled to his opinions, just like you like to point out about free speech, anno has his right to think OTD is a waste of space. You fight for free speech PGF, but when someone says something you don't like, why do you attack them for even speaking their mind?

Back to the topic, my only problem with this is that for those people who visit mush cult and aren't asking dumb questions; I think its unfair to them to force a pop up screen everytime they visit the forum. If there is a way to have this only happen say to users who have 25 posts or less I think it would be alright... But to punish others because newbies ask dumb questions is like punishing your kid because yesterday it rained Newbies are a force of nature, will always exist, will always have dumb questions, and we should not be finding ways to punish them for their interest in this hobby.

People have a choice, if you don't like their repetitive questions then don't answer them or open those posts... Has everyone forgotten how it is to be a newbie?

In reply to:

that's odd.. but don't worry anno, i still respect you and your opinions

jokin' aside, anno is a valuable asset to this site, and should definitely be an administrator (thor's allright too ;?) .. an' hey let's not forget 3d whatever you guys do decide to do, it probably won't help too much, since (as has been made very clear) there will always be newbies and there will always be repetitive questions. you don't like 'em?.. don't look at 'em. i like club's idea of putting red lettering along the lines of:
Please search the FAQ before posting (link will open in a new window).

Let's keep this at the top until the splash screen is tried.

Well you may have to wait a while, unless someone wants to volunteer to do this work..

We have more pressing things that are on the 'to do' list and you have to understand that this suggestion is not exactly top priority...

I can be patient.

When I come home and there's 30+ posts in the cult forum, and most are crap, then there is a need for this.

While I'm letting you know what I think..... how about setting a fire under the ass of several of your mods. There are some very good ones, there are some who seem unable or unwilling to do what mods do. There are far too many cross posts and probably more off topic posts.

Would you want to design the splash screen?
Something similar than the overgrow has?

thork, I thought you said you were not going to do this?

what made you cave? Was it peer pressure from the three people who really want it done?

If you want to keep newbies away, maybe you should just shut the site down.....

I agree wholeheartedly with PGF here.

I mean yes some of you in the beginning read, used the search engine, etc..... But you forget that thats you, you knew to look before you asked. We get people from all over the world visiting this site, people who don't speak very good english, people who have logged onto the internet for the first time.

We can't expect everyone to be like us, that is a true way to be miserable in life hoping that everyone will be just like you. Thats why you find so much intolerance, its because you want only behavior that you approve of.

Give the newbies some slack, I had a friend of mine from Iceland ask questions in mush cult, he read the PF tek, and lots of other info but he still asked some basic questions because he was unsure of a few things.

Newbie questions will always exist, its impossible to change, and to bitch about it is like complaining how time keeps moving..

If it bothers you don't click on the thread, don't reply, and I think you'll be much happier.

I thought websites like this were to help others, to teach and reach new levels in this hobby.. When new people come to this hobby its intimidating, all the info people have to take in, I welcome those newbies and hope that you at least be cordial to even the simplest questions.

You can be a jerk to these people, or you can be helpfull; hell you can even ignore them..... But what do you think is better, being nice to someone you just met, or giving them attitude?

maybe you are just high and will come back to your sense thor....
