Interesting how the Subs apparently migrated to nz from australia..

I have migrated back and forth a few times myself , went to Monash High in Melbourne for a year lived in Avalon , Perth , Byron Bay and Port Douglas at different times .. traveling is a special thing , either you do it or dont , but it has a lot of common attributes .

So when i thought about how the subs migrated to NZ and the places i find mine i reflected back on how we travel , and who travels etc and how these spores would have made their way here..

Have found some nice cultures near Major roads , places where vehicle could carry spores to , and places where travelers frequent as well (tourist locations a biggie) , especially independent travelers adventurous travelers (surfies/backpackers come to mind) .

So i simply want to pay respect to those Aussies who got on airplanes and carried the spores of the cultures we find here with them . The Aussie hitch-hikers who carried spores to their roading junctions , the surfies who let the spores fly out of the windows of their clean running Holdens , Fords and Chryslers as they cruised around the country and especially to those Aussies who spent time in the cities and by shaking their pockets or airing their clothes released spores that now work with the trees and grow and are provide the shrooms now for us here amongst the unban nz landscape .

Some great people travel , and in so many ways they make a difference to the places they visit .. just to say my hats off to those largely unknown Aussies who one way or another got the spores starting our local cultures here.. I walk in your footsteps , and i walk carefully .. May you live forever .

cheers .

How is the season going for everyone? My patches have significantly died off, a few babies here and there but nothing compared to a month ago. Plenty of rain too, I was hoping the season would last until at least August. Anyone still having luck?

All dried up for me. It's just not cold enough around here.

Damn this Sydney winter. I had to put on a jumper!

Seriously though, shame about the short mushy season, but you gotta love these mild sunny winter days. Beautiful.

I found a dozen small subs in my local spot 10 mins from the CBD yesterday. Unfortunately 90% of them looked like they had been taken to with a flamethrower they were so black. Either there's a 'concerned parent' in the area flaming the subs or they rot super quick. This is the same area that had the pins ripped up about a month ago (while leaving the thousands of Stropharia).

I think there's a sub-hater living near me

But i will get my revenge... A few litres of LC and a pump-action sprayer should see to that.

Also i went up into the mountains a week ago for other reasons and i found a few here and there, wasn't even looking.

Saying all that, none of my original patches have fruited twice. I think you need to find new patches.

Local patch stopped about a week ago, was up in the mountains today but for other reasons, didn't check. One big last dump of rain before mid August might do it, in the mountains its still damn cold, just need more rain.
