I know it is a state. I have been there when i put together Magic Mushrooms of Australia and new Zealand.
However it is an Island.
In the USA we say the United states and Hawaii. Hawaii is a large group of many islands of which 7 are inhabitable.
Tasmania is off the coast of your mainland and we in the west coast refer to it as Australia and Tasmania.
mj Tasmania is Australia mj...it's just a state, even though it looks like a pubic thatch tacked on the map. But no Queensland? It's Tasmania that's supposed to be routinely forgotten, now I know how they feel!

Hehe, sorry, I meant Ps. subaruginosa! I accidentally typed Ps. caerulipes instead.
I know that subs are native to Australia, but can they be found in NSW and all of Australia? I don't think Blue Foot are native to any part of Australia.... Sorry for the mis-type.
Subs certainly found in southern Australia - Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia, southern parts of Western Australia, Australian Capital Territory and parts of New South Wales.
I *think* it is too warm in northern NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory - there are other active species there that I have no experience with (copes and cubes perhaps?)
Maybe someone from up that way can set me straight?
Im not from there, but its not too warm in northern NSW for subs. Theyve been found as far north as just above the NSW/QLD border in Queensland. But the conditions wouldnt be as favourable as the southern areas. Cubes have been reported in QLD, Northern NSW and copes in Northen NSW, QLD and NT.

The season is well and truly here! Just came home from my first hunt of the season with a *very* nice haul! I've got a tonne of pics which I'll post soon ... just setting up the fan-dryer now. Come on NSW, lets kick Victoria's arse this year!

Here are some photos from todays hunt in the Mountains. We had a great day ... there are loads of Amanitas about, you can clearly see them growing along the side of the road just cruising down the highway ...and, our sub patches are exploding with big, healthy shrooms. We saw far more shrooms than we needed to/bothered to pick. We've already got a bigger haul than the sum of last year's dismal season ... things are looking good!

Well i went on my first real hunt today up in the mountains, didn't have much luck all afternoon UNTIL i saw these little puppes... at first i plucked one to have a look at the stem and get ready to throw away like all the other stropharia i found BUT straight away noticed the blue at the base...

Habitat: man-made woodchips in a park/garden Cap size: 1.5 - 5cm Stem length: 1 - 5cm Spore print: Printing now
They were picked about 2 hours ago and were already getting this dry straight out of the ground.
Only found one patch all day but are these Subs?

^^^ Just looked at your pics again and I reckon that one on the bottom left looks a bit suspect. The brown looking stem looks dodgey, I would chuck it out.
