This is my first season but i already figured out Sydney is generally going to be a hard slog.
Sydney's temps are usually 3 or 4 degrees higher, we don't get nearly as much rain (it comes in short storms, not wetting rain) and our nights rarely get lower than 10 degs.
If you figure that subs will only grow for 4 weeks of a year in Sydney whereas in Melbourne it might be 10 (i dont know just guessing), then that means our subs have less time to spread their spores and won't be as abundant either.
In the past 2 months i've found some promising looking woodchip beds all around Sydney but i'm not going to bother looking again until the depths of winter after decent rain.
I think the deal is you either know one of a few very specific spots that fruit only after rain or you need to go into or over the mountains.
Again though this is my first season so i'm still figuring it out.

I'm in the same boat undergrounder. Sydney probably doesn't have the best mushroom weather, but i've been looking around for promising areas to hit when the rain does come. Apparently a solid week of rain is due in June, so hopefully that will be enough for me to horde some if the going gets tough.

I went back today to the place where I found my first and solitary sub. (first little nipple cap thread)
There were 4 today that I took and at least 3-4 pins I found but left.
They seemed to occur in a very specific area. All specimens falling within a 20 meter radius or so. That first specimen I found a couple of weeks ago must have spread it's seed and now that it's colder, more popped up. As I said in the other thread, I think the only reason I found that one shroom is that it was in a very wet area along a flowing creek, in a cold valley where the temperature drops by a tangible amount as you walk down to it.

I think this is highly illegal and against forum rules but...
If anyone's venturing out over the next week, with this soaking rain setting in, GOOD LUCK!
Looking forward to some real substantial inner-Sydney finds if that is even possible. But now's the time to find out.

Went on a hunt today before the heavy rain set in today, plenty of amanita muscaria about in full bloom. Beautiful things. But aside from one other inactive, I found nothing but fly agaric. I would've searched for longer but the wind and rain really picked up.

Were the amanitas in inner-sydney, further out or in the mountains? i see few in Sydney but tonnes in the mountains.
I had a quick look around today and found a few hundred giant-sized Coprinus comatus (Lawyer's Wig) growing in a playing field and a few hundred Earthstars, and about 50 Stropharia aurantiaca.
Ill give inner-Sydney another go in the next few days before hitting up further out.

A mate and I went out to the mountains today and came back with this small haul of subs...
120g

A Happy Patch

Blueing

Big Ones

If anyone disagrees with me and they're not subs (they do have a weird shape for subs) please reply!
Also i found a few small patches of subs that were almost totally black and dry. Do subs blacken when they dry? They were almost covered in an oily blackness but still had noticeable blueing on the stems. And are they OK to eat if they're that black and dry?
Cheers

does 'almost covered in an oily blackness' sound apetizing? if you can't identify them, don't eat them. if youwouldn't eat a grocery store vegetable in such condition, don't eat them.

They're subs, but dried... they almost look burned or something. The blackness looks like it could be just severe bruising or stressing on the caps.
Dried subs are fine to eat. Just not sure if the blackness is natural in subs that have dried out to that extent. If it's not, i won't eat them.
I didn't bother picking them.

I would if they came out of my oven like that

Didn't have to go far to find these nice little subs. Found in my garden in Enmore, Sydney. Just had to walk out the front door. I swear they follow me around, I seem to find them at every second house I live in. All over Auckland and now in Sydney. Sweet!

blackness in dried psilocybes is the same as blackness in fresh psilocybes; rot.
