Ancient Mushrooms Cults other than Those in the Americas

Everybody knows that psilocybin 'shrooms grow all over the world, there had to ancient knowledge of this...ancient Chinese documents have cures for psilocybin intoxication refereed to as "laughing sickness". So the knowledge was there.....I think it's impossible for the ancients somewhere in the world to have not discovered the properties of the psilocybian mushrooms. Mckenna argues that the first humans used mushrooms in Africa which helped developed language and the first religions...there's one example....Does anybody have anymore? I just cannot imagine that the people of ancient Mexico where the only ones to discover this.....I would also like to discuss psychoactives drugs effects on early religions, Goddess worship, and Bon-Po (The pre-Buddhist Tibetan religion). Mckenna offerers another example in the Archaic Revival when he hints that Muhammad may have experienced his religious revelations under the intoxication of psilocybin. (Read Wasson's Literary Precursors)

Well in the scheme of things, so what if its some kind of conspiricy, right? Its only so interesting to think about how religions formed and ect; the so called sociological understanding of religion. From this point of view, religion is obviously a plague to humanity, and mushrooms are either simply a failed social experiment, or implied divinity. The social situation of psychedelics is both depressing and maddening.


I think itd be cooler to discuss similarity in metaphor and symbols between the psychedelic experience, and scripture, sacrament, or ceremony. This would be more open to philosophical interpretation I think. I say its much more interesting to understand why YOU think mushies are divine, instead of societies take on it, considering that the mystic is a completely subjective experience anyway.

I'd like to talk about the chinese's knowledge of psilocybian intoxication...all i know is that in ancient medical text they have cures for "laughing sickness"...I wonder what their cure was and if it will really stop a trip..

There is a theory (it's not my theory) that Jesus and/or early Christians may have used amanita muscaria...all i want to do is explore this idea, i realize it is unlikely and AM NOT claiming it to be true...i know there are books on it, anyone with any information please let me know..


What do you think of Mckenna's speculation about Islamic mushrooms cults? Sufi mushroom cult? and How about Muhammad's religious revelations being from psilocybin intoxication?  ( Note this is Terence Mckenna's theory, NOT MINE, please tell him how stupid he is:rolleyes:, It is found in the chapter called " Wasson's Literary Precursors" in the "Archaic Revival")

All i want is anyone with any infromation to state what they know, I'm not claiming any of this to be true, i just find it interesting...

Well, a sense of humor is allowed, but, within the context of discussion, I do not see how her statement, if presented as speculation, has any less verification than the notion that Jesus used mushrooms. :shrug:

I mean, for all we know, E was synthesized way back then too.
