i just thought i would continue the forum, it was gettin long so and i had a new idea separate from the original so here it is, if it bothers u i started a new post, sorry. just thought it would be cleaner :-)
when i saw this post, it got my mind racing, i was like wow people think a lot like me thats why i love this place so much, to get to realise that people think and like alot of the same things as you and see the so called "light" if you will. but i wanted to say is that, to me, i have always thought of shrooms as being the "forbidden Fruit" as when u eat them your enlightened just like the forbidden fruit, and it was wonderful, so eve wanted to pass it on, just like all of us want to pass on your experiences with mushrooms. also for some i have been told it opens areas in your mind that u wish u never had, just like the forbidden fruit, it also paved a way for a new way of thinking, just like shrooms, but as for me i have never wished i hadn't done shrooms and the doors of the my mind haven't been opened i am forever grateful. basically i just wanted to share some opinions, if u share them thats kewl if not i respect that too, i just wanted to see what u all thought about my lil part on shrooms -> forbidden fruit

Mushrooms are an exellent symbol of the "forbidden fruit" for one cannot gain something without losing something else. You gain a deeper sense of the truth but you lose some of the mystery associated with life.

I doubt it will ever be a matter of anything more than speculation, but I'm also interested in the theories linking mind-altering substances to Christianity. I read a very good article suggesting that mana may have been mushrooms. I think it was on Erowid. Anyone read it? I can't find it now. Anyway, it's all speculation. I can say with certainty, though, that mushrooms definitely help shape my own personal religion.
Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon religion, claimed he had a visitation from God. According to his journal, he had been stressing about which of all the churches he should join (early 1800's Christian revivalry) and one dewy morning he went through a pasture into a wooded area to "ask God". He prayed to God and was overtaken by some terrible force that he was sure was going to kill him. Then he was visited by God. Now, I wouldn't cast too many chips on it, but the whole thing, as he described it, sounds a lot like some of my heavier mushroom trips. Did they even have magic mushrooms in upstate New York in 1820?
Another one I relate to by way of the shroom is Jacob wrestling with the angel. If that don't describe a level-five...

i agree with you on what u said about that trip joseph had, about the mormon church sure sounds real. i wouldn't doubt that your right. as for the mormon church itself. i think its the only church in the world that i don't like. but thats just my opinion.
too bad the society now days is soo close minded to things like shrooms its very sad. i really wish people would just open there eyes and see the beauty.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot of lame stuff about Mormonism, doctrinally and culturally. But since I come from a Mormon community and still have a lot of Mormon friends and family, it has forced me to accept the bad with the good (or better yet to keep my judgements out of it), and I think that has been valuable. The Mormon religion has the same tendencies of mob mentality and individual transcendentalism, and all the shades between, of any people of a particular culture.

Oh, and I read somewhere that there is a religion out there (I think it may have been AZ or NM) based on two things: magic mushrooms and the Mormon "Word of Wisdom".
Mushrooms, you know about those. The "Word of Wisdom" was instruction related to physical health. Nowadays if you ask a Mormon, you'll probably hear that the WofW is this--no tobacco, no coffee, no tea, no alcohol, and no illicit drugs. Well, that's a very modern interpretation, the original having more to do with moderation and wisdom in diet than thoughtless obedience to the "Five No-Nos". Anyway, just some trivia.
