Well I'm all for living for today and making the most out of the time we have, but if you believe that God exists then the most important thing would be to do his will since he created you and everything you 'know' IMO.
I was just having trouble 'knowing' what his accorance really is...

Why would you believe in a g*d, and how could you know g*d's will?

Most people who believe they have communicated with a g*d and have this sense of its will and everything are simply referring to a higher sense of their own self. We all have different levels of existance. Sometimes they just aren't the most integrated within each other.

"Horrible atrocities have been justified by religion."
The cause is the fallen nature of man, "religion" merely serves as a wrapper. The problem is the nature, the way it expresses itself is by atrocities wrapped in "religion".

"Also, if a child is born in the jungle of Africa and has not been 'taught' the word of 'God', grows up not wanting to harm others, lives a good life, and then has to suffer eternally for not knowing 'God'. These types of situations do not make sense for a loving 'God'. What makes this child less worthy of having a good chance of experiencing salvation then one born to a family who knows the way of 'God'? Not to mention nearly every religion says that the other religions are going to some version of 'hell' for not believing the right religion. How are we suppose to know which one is the 'true' religion? Are they really all paths to 'God'?"

You are missing a key truth of Christianity, that everyone without exception only deserves wrath as punishment for unrightousness. God is not under any obligation to show mercy to anyone. If God has ordained that someone will live and die and never hear any gospel ever, we know that God never intended to show mercy to them. No injustice is committed by not showing mercy. What about those in other religions? The same applies to them.

Each and every person that God will show mercy to will before they die come under the hearing of the gospel and the Holy Spirit will bring them into conviction and conversion and belief of the truth.

Also you seem to think that salvation is contingent on the person, when in fact it is contingent on the mercy of God alone apart from human acts. Belief itself is a gift of God, not a contingency to be met. The fact that the vast majority of men are never given this gift does not make God evil. Elective grace is a proof of God's goodness, since those who are saved have no redeeming qualities in themselves, yet despite this, God sends Jesus to redeem a people for Himself, thus proving the greatness of His goodness in the act of salvation of hell deserving sinners.

Why are you bleeping g*d's name if you do not believe in such an entity?

How can you be sure of that?
Like how can you KNOW it? Do you think that it's fair to tell all that to somebody who is honestly looking for something higher then this religious fetish?
Please this is a philosophy forum and until now you didn't come up with any EVIDENCE to sustain what you're saying. You're only confusing people and make them feel guilty for something which is in fact very natural.
We're all born free and we all die free and because of affirmations like yours people miss the amazing part of this life.

He has faith of course. We all know that blind adherence is the most efficient means of proceeding in life.

It is an effect utilized in reference to the dysfunctional ambiguity in the phrase. It is, effectively, one of the very few words in human language that conveys absolutely no concept or idea.

Once again Karma seems to be a viable and accurate concept.

As far as your idea of an afterlife I’m not completely sure exactly what you believe and am interested. What do you mean by natural cosmic flow? What freedom do we have after death has occurred? Or do you mean our existence occurs strictly on this earth (effectively no afterlife)?

I think we're made of pure awareness (informed energy). And that we're free. We just seem to forget about our freedom, that's all.
Aren't there moments when you feel that everything around you is in a state of perfect flow? That's how I perceive that freedom, it's very very hard to put into words since it's something that must be felt, which I'm sure you already did.
I don't know what happens after life and it's not my goal to find out, what's the purpose... I'll find out sooner or later anyways. Until then... I have so many amazing things to do around here :smirk:
Look at this life. It full of  :whoah:  when you stop looking for a meaning. It's life at it's fullness happening everywhere in each second. And you are the only one to decide what to get from it and how. You decide your life and your feelings and it's the only thing that matter. That is freedom :heartpump:. And as long as you wish to be free nobody can take that from you. :mushroom2:

Yes.
The best way of proceeding in a life simulation...
You know what's really sad for me to see? That there are people who really start to ask questions and open their eyes, and some of them are unlucky enough to come across somebody who will brain wash them. It's really sad to see that happening.
I don't have anything against religious people it's their choice and I respect it, as long as they're staying out of other people's lives

  To me it still conveys the old man w/ a beard in the clouds, and he's looking out over some scorched valley in the Middle-east where the Roman legions have gathered.  Definitely an imprint from Sunday school.

For me, it represents all of the different definitions of it that I have heard. It is interesting the wide variety of what people express concerning the "concept". All of the responses, however, "G*d is awareness, G*d is reality", etc., are unnecessary associations with a dead word.

Reality already has a word to describe its nature: reality.

I need some opinions and ideas to help resolve an internal struggle that's been dwelling inside for a few years.

At one point I was doubtful that God existed, I had come to believe that religion was a ploy to control the masses, and that everything could be explained rationally and with science.

Over the years (in part with the help of psychedelics) I have come to the conclusion that there has got to be something tending the light at the end of the tunnel.  All of this can't be chance, some random anomaly, a phenomena that has no explanation.  There is something instead of nothing because there is a higher power to create that something.  Life is tended by a force, knowledge was born and has multiplied exponentially.

There are some problems I see, however.  If 'God' created this system for life why was it set up to be so violent (I'm not talking about human nature, yet)?  The animal kingdom is a system that requires life to feed on other life in a constant circle of death.  Every minute is spent searching for food and trying not to become food.  Plus if these animals have no souls all their suffering is in vein, right?.  It seems so cruel and arbitrary.  Then there is us, humans.  Horrible atrocities have been justified by religion.  Also, if a child is born in the jungle of Africa and has not been 'taught' the word of 'God', grows up not wanting to harm others, lives a good life, and then has to suffer eternally for not knowing 'God'. Are they really all paths to 'God'?

So many unanswered questions... I know this all can't be for nothing... Any Ideas?
