Not to bash any "god" believers (for I am not one), my theory is relatively simple. The "buzz" we get off of magic mushrooms is simply the organisms method of defense. Of course, this doesn't work for humans because we can be equally as stupid as the next animal, and in fact we enjoy this organisms defense mechanism! Whatever the case, I am a stupid human too, and yes I like to cop legendary buzzes off these kinds of fungus. Call it what you will

why do our brains act the way they do when we eat mushrooms. the fact that there are mushrooms is given. why are there frogs? why do we trip if we lick certain ones?

Yep, biologically speaking it is a defense mechanism, but surely you can see it's greater purpose for human consumption. It constantly changes your perspectives and emotions, confusing you to the point of insanity sometimes. But it is these experiences coupled with our human ability to understand that makes them "mind-expanding."

Psiloc(yb)in is not a defense mechanism! Mushrooms themselves simply serve to bring spores above the ground for the incredibly enormous mycelieum networks to grow. They drop BILLIONS of spores...the mushrooms would have NO NEED to defend themselves.

There are no coincidences; certainly not in the way mushrooms or Ayahuasca effect us. They are tools to aid our evolution as is EVERYTHING else in the universe.

Personally I think the entire Earth is One living, evolving process in which every organism plays an equal part (or decides to go rouge and abandon the process/ The Flow as humans have). There is more to life than survival!

It most certainly is a defense mechanism.. Yes the shrooms drop a bunch of spores, but they wont if animals eat them all before they can drop them (i.e. closed cap mushrooms - the most potent). So the psilocybin acts to deter you from eating any more.

Fungi(Including magic fungus) are decomposers in their environment... I hope we all know what decomposers are since we are all on the same website. As far as animals, I'm pretty sure they don't mean to eat the psychadelic fungus, and when they do; they probably get pretty fucked up too. Other animals don't have the analyzational abilities that humans have, theorizing that they probably eat the magic ones more than once, but not on purpose like we do. Therefore, the hallucinagenic functions of some mushrooms have got to be a method of defense, as I stated before, whether or not they produce billions of spores. A defense mechanism only prolongs their lifespan and therefore assisting the species' evolution

Psilocybin probably evolved as a defense mechanism. However, that same psilocybin has attracted humans and now we seem to share a symbiotic relationship with each other. So at the same time in the wild animals will avoid eating the mushroom due to its effects (which the primal mind of animals an not able to comprehend) likewise people will give it ideal conditions to grow over and over again to intentionally consume it for the same effects (enjoyable to most of us because our minds are strong enough to withstand and even harness the effects).

It is worthy to note that Indians regarded the mushroom in high esteem and referred to it as the "flesh of God."

I am a believer in God and think he gave us the mushroom to show us a glimpse at eternity and true knowledge. Like most things it can be used for good or evil.
