What is a Christian?
    #5780109 -

Some say a Christian is X, some say a Christian is Y.

But, according to the Bible, the only one who can tell what a Christian is is Christ himself. HE is the judge. Not you.

We all interpret the religious writings in our own way, and we all practice them differently. Whose practices are correct? Only Christ knows.

Just something I was thinking about.

I would say a Christian is one who tries to live his or her life the way Christ did. Going to church doesn't necessarily make you a Christian; believing in God and living a compassionate life bent towards helping others does.

I think a christian is a person which feels and believes from all his heart what Christ preached and did, not what some broken clones priests or bible have to say.

How would you know Christ' doings besides reading the disciples' narratives?

I think a Christian is one who lives his life molding it to the perfect image of Jesus Christ. That's where a lot of Christians fail - they worship God and Jesus - but that's not what Christianity is about. Christianity is not only acknowledging Jesus as your lord and saviour, but becoming Jesus - finding the Kingdom of Heaven within.

Well and you believe with all your heart you also follow that image and become it. So where's the contradiction?

being a Christian is the same as being anything else

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

a Christian is a sheep led to the slaughter,
they promise him 20 virgins
and he gets nothing.

the other view is that he's a follower of a great man...

I don't buy it

a sheep has 4 legs, has fur, is millions of times less inteligent (can't do math for example) and does not wear clothes

A christian is usually a human

Re: What is a Christian? [Re: Schwammel]

For what I sincerely hope is the last time, Christ wasn't a Christian. Christ couldn't tell you if you were a good Christian or not, just if he felt you were being the kind of Jew he thought you should be. What would he think of the New Testament? I dunno, he'd probably dig it though. Maybe not.

What is a Christian? Someone who believes in what we believe are the teachings of Christ and his disciples. And some scribes, a king, some translators and in all likelihood their own purveyor of religion (priest, teacher, parent or whatever) who has to interpret meaning before they can hope to disseminate it. Plus the Old Testament.

Or maybe it's just anybody who cares to claim the title, and as Bug put it "being a Christian is the same as being anything else"

--------------------
Don't worry, I'm wrong.

I think you if you follow the lead of the love and good he was preaching about you can suddenly realize the bullshit that was made uo in the bilie and are not really his words. That's what I was talking about. Christ preached love and having your haert opened and not being judgemental or hateful. By that you can feel the spirit he was trying to get humanity in and then get rid of all te other fake and threathening bull shit the bible ads as Jesus's wods.
