On Tuesday night the took Ryan's respirator out. He had no trouble breathing on his own which is good. His condition is downgraded to serious. His heart is still unstable and the amount of damage is not known. There giving him dopamine, morphine and some other drugs. For the first 24 hours he didn't say anything, which had me worried because they said he could vary likely have brain damage. Yesterday when he would open his eyes they were glazed over and I couldn't tell if he was in there.
Today much to my delight when he opened his eyes his intense sparkle was back. Those eyes that are as dark and deep as the night sky were back. He also talked a little bit. A friend of his arrived from California today and Ryan mumbled to him "is Bush president?". He replyed yes and Ryan said "then I know this ain't Heaven". We all laughed and cried. This was a good sign that his wit is still intact.
He doesn't say much and sleeps most of the time.
The doctors are still worried as to why his heart completely stopped. He also said it was amazing that he was still alive. He said he must have a guardian angel watching over him because most people who have a heart attack in there sleep die or suffer so much damage they never awaken.
As soon as Ryan's heart is more stable they are going to tun more tests to get a better understanding of it's condition. I will keep you updated on his progress.
I am truly touched by all of you and your kind words. I'm going to try to copy this and take your messages into Ryan and read them to him.

That's great news! I hope the damage to his heart was minimal. I'm sure you'll tell him how much we're all pulling for him....
