Anyone notice the steady decline in the quality and inteligence of the posts around here?

The title speaks for itself, for example I was reading a thread in General questions, and I forgot I was in the shroomery, same deal with ODD. Don't get me started about the pub, it just makes me sad how it seems the shroomery is cahnging, and not for the better :frown:.

I haven't been here long, but i do see how the shroomery could be so much better with less stupid posts. There are so many n00bs signing up every day, even if they don't plan to stay. Shroom on and don't worry about it, you'll always have a place to kick it!

I've noticed it too, but it always seems to level out again. Seems like lots of the bullshit from otd's slipping out onto the other forums. It really pesters me sometimes.

I have noticed this too gdman and it sucks :frown:

I guess the shroomery is over populated. back in the day (wow I sound old :smirk:) you could actually keep track of posts.

I noticed the Pub has the worst decline :thumbdown:
I moderate GQ and sometimes I just thing WTF how can people ask such things over and over again?

I'm a noob (in terms of actively posting) here, but don't think I've caused too much fuss and I am here to stay and learn :smile:

Been reading this site and forum for about a year now since I found out shrooms were actually legal here!!

I understand that it's way overpopulated, is there any way to start controlling this? People do need correct information, and this place has less misinformation than any other boards i've been on. I feel like dead weight now, because i'm new, but i also think you guys are kickass and that i belong here :smile:

The shroomery is in constant flux, and constant growth.. Its a completely different animal that it was when i joined.. you'll just have to get used to it as you go along. Theres always gonna be the "good ol days".. it gets bigger and bigger, and less personal, but its the nature of the beast.

Isn't more people learning about using mushrooms responsibly a good thing?  Yeah, the post quality might be a bit lower right now, but I look at it as a good opportunity to set an example for the new guys.  We were all newbie's once.  :smile:

The best thing we can do is be receptive and welcoming to the new guys, so that they respond to others here the same way.

I haven't been here that long but I have noticed a lot of fluctuation in quality ever since I signed up and among the different forums.  I just ignore certain posters and pay attention to things that interest me. :shrug: Hopefully the quality of my posts doesn't rub you guys the wrong way!

Yeah I see it and it has actually had me thinking about throwing in the towel. i'm still not sure if i'll hang around but I decided to get back to trying to make a difference around here.

it saddens me too!

I think much of the problem is that new users cannot get into OTD which is the only forum where anything goes.

If we could keep the crap contained to one forum it just keeps the quality of posts on the rest of the boards at a higher standard.

Just my opinion.

I guess I see this "general decline" that you guys are talking about (although I didn't really start posting anything until January '04, so I'm still a bit of a n00b myself)... I guess the only way to fix it is to ignore jackassed posts, and think of interesting topics to start... i'd do it myself, but i sit in front of a computer all day long at work, and when I check the shroomery, I'm just looking for "how great the Grateful Dead are" threads.....  :grin: (the funniest thing is - i can recall when there were literally 5 or 6 topics in the Pub with that general theme! :gd_icon: )

but seriously - instead of just complaining, guys, i say we all make the effort to find an interesting article, website, song, artist, biography, book, whatever - something interesting and intellectually/artistically stimulating - and post it! I'm going to eat some dinner, but then I'll find something I find interesting and post it for you guys!

Just fucking with ya...but In the 5+ years that I've been active here I've seen this place go through many changes.  Some I liked, some I didn't.  But I never look back.  There are people here I will always enjoy and people here I will never enjoy.  Its always been that way.

The only real difference from 5 years ago is that back then you could leave for 3 or 4 days and catch up on every post in every forum in about 30 minutes.  Now you leave for an hour and your screwed...in just one forum! :tongue:

Leaving? If a place is getting bad, then why not try and fix it. Create some interesting threads, hang out in the garden (my favorite forum), do something but don't just leave and hope it gets better.

One more thing i noticed that makes me mad, is when obvious youngsters are around the board (who probably make a majority of those stupid posts). I swear some of these topics have to be from 13 year olds.

I'd say the only unimpressive part of the shroomery as far as intellect goes is most of OTD. The rest of the community seems really great.

I used to lurk here when I was at school 2 years ago, and although I never actively posted then, I realized the Shroomery was and still is a wealth of useful information.

You just have to filter out a certain amount of bullshit.

The good posters intend on enlightening the community.  As a new poster, I still lurk 90% of the time, learning and filling my head with facts that aren't known in our mainstream culture.

Thanks to all the informed posters out there that continue to change the way I think.  As far as the negetive posters... its pretty easy to just ignore them

I've been here for about a year. (longer probably, and I'm counting since I started reading, not registered) I've noticed a definite drop in intelligence, but its mostly when I started going into other forums. When I first came, it was pretty much all Cultivation and Grow logs. Given that at the time I was a newbie, Cultivation didn't seem so bad. The 3 posts per page of the EXACT same question just helped re enforce it into my brain.

Although, I didn't post anything for a long time, because I've been to other forums and I know the importance of the damn search engine. I didn't need to post anything. Given the thousands and thousands of posts on this site, theres not likely a situation that makes me completely individual from every single post on this board. The question has been asked before, and the answer is only a search away. This goes for 95% of newbies. You must be in a really unique situation if its not covered (or close enough that you can use your brain to put the pieces together) by one of the many posts on the board.

So now I just look at it and see the same questions over and over. Its definitely nice to answer someone when they've done their reading and a concept confuses them. Either because its worded poorly or they just don't get it. But too often its just, "where do i get syringes?" "how long are they good for?" and of COURSE "what strain should I get?"

The entho garden forum is great. Very few posts per hour, intelligent too. There are some repeated questions, "How much San Pedro d0 I needz to tr1p? Is this walmart cactus it!?". ODD just shows how irresponsible people can be (myself included). Its a very sad thing to see, but the sadness would exist even without the forum, we just wouldn't have to read about it. I mainly like the threads about LSD, from the old timers, chinacat and all. Mostly because it doesn't fit in another forum, that's where it goes.

The pub seems okay, not really into the social just to be social online thing. I've been to enough forums that it just doesn't interest me. The shroomery interests me because of its different forums, not the more typical one. Now, OTD is your typical bullshit forum. I can't stand it. Its really sad to read the better forums and then go in there and see this typical crap, almost as sad as IRC. Seeing how shroomery is a different kind of place, I was hoping it's irc chan would be too. But its just like every other IRC network, just with more drugs. People (possibly little kids?) get excited when they can talk shit about someone and not worry about the after effect of getting punched in the face. It seems to me now that its an unavoidable part of InternetRelayChat.

It goes hand in hand with some of the negative posts and ratings here. When I first came I didn't think it to be the kind of community where people post shit like "stupid hippie fag" "fagg0t" (a great one) "ghey" (a true beauty, almost as nice as gh3y) "c0cksucker" which is one I believe I have in my ratings.

Sorry for all the bitching, I'm done. Just needed to vent this shit.

Some sites maintain sticky topics to which posters can contribute, thus maintaining a higher intellectual content on topics that don't get lost (the only trouble being the length of them)

I've been lurking off & on since @99 and I honestly thought this site wouldn't make it to where it is today. So you old-timers can mourn for the good-old-days when rum ran in the streets and the bars never closed but the fact is this place wouldn't exist without your efforts.

So yeah, things change, the wild-life is a little tamer and we check our guns in at the edge of town, but the streets are safe for the young-uns and you know that the small bit of freedom and American spirit that can still be found around these parts is thanks to you.

So let's brag about them good old days and swat 40's ass and know we can do it better an longer than any banty rooster struttin up town (no matter what the girls think) :wink:

I've noticed it too and it's disconcerting to say the least.

as a site grows larger you are going to get a more representative sample of the true population.

Alot of people on the boards are here for the actual purpose of the boards, and alot are here for a social atmosphere.  I know i read the boards religiously every day, and its quite easy to just skip over the bullshit and continue.

I think the Pub is still a great forum (my favorite on here next to MA&L).

Look at anything in life.  When you are a part of something or do something for a while, you will always reminisce about the old days...but whats the point in that?  Things change, either change with them or be left behind.

There was a suggestion in WAF to have an "Introduction" forum for newbies to introduce themselves. I've seen this on other message boards, and it sounds like a great idea. It will allow us to weed out the trolls and puppets, so that way both the Pub and OTD get higher-quality posts. If this idea goes through, I'd like to be the first to volunteer to mod such a forum. I think I could deal with n00bs pretty fairly.

I agree. Although I am a n00b I agree this should be a forum and that n00bs must introduce themselves and post in this forum for no less than 20 days. Then after the trial period have access to everything but market place and ODD. Then have access when they have no less than 50 posts and no less than 35 days on the boards. I Personally would have still stayed and stuck it out in the introduction forum because I love it here. I spend a good amount of my day here i.e. work, home, school (no not high school) etc. etc. I actually have missed 1 or 2 classes because I lost track of time on this forum :oops:

Anyway I am just a n00b and my opinion doesn't count for much around here. So take it as you wish.

Oh, hold on just a second! I was mainly talking about the cultivation forums. There are about 10-15 questions asked nearly daily. There are tons of threads to read asking the same thing, getting the same answer. If it was phrased poorly the first time, a search will help you. If you can't figure it out still, either you can explain *why* this is in your post (which most wouldn't have a problem with. not just repeating the question, but adding why it doesn't yet make sense) or you're not going to understand after posting.

Now, what I said in *no way* replies to ODD or anything. Believe me, I know there are stupid posts there as well. But I also know it needs to be taken very seriously even in stupid posts. The ideas of safe drug use need to be made clear. There will always be people willing to try a stupid combination of drugs. I'd rather them post and be told harshly what they're doing is dangerous, or if important safety precautions can be taken. Simply locking threads won't make the problem go away, it'll just be less visible. By stopping any flow of real information, we'd be no better than the public school system. Don't need to worry about how to use a drug safely when you can just be told not to do this or that and have real answers withheld.

oh ya i got ya. totally missed what you were syaing first go. i agree, some forums like cultivation probably do need some stoopid proofing. and liek you said ODD GQ and such need to be taken seriously. that and the Hunting forum. pretty easy to fuck up with such things.
