Lots of Grateful Dead posts lately

The Grateful dead were a movement, a one time phenomena that will never be repeated, and to the enlightened much, much more than that. We who had the privilege to follow the band from city to city, arena to arena, year in and year out did so by the grace of god!
The light that the Dead left inside of me touches everything I do in my private life and in my professional career. I consider the time I spent with thousands of brothers and sisters attending Dead shows for the better part of 20 years as a life experience that few people will ever comprehend. I wish that was not the case, I wish I could make people understand what it was like because I would love to be able to share it!
I attended many other concerts over the years such as Led Zeppelin, The Stones, ELP, CSNY, Yes, Pink Floyd, Allmans, Tull, Marshall Tucker, and far too many more to mention. And that's what they were concerts, great music, and good times!
But that's not what a Grateful Dead show was because it was all of those things plus that special intangible that made a Dead concert an experience to cherish. I have no words to describe it but I'm not very gifted in the written word. All I know is there was nothing like a Grateful Dead concert!

Every day I listen to the dead, and everytime I hear one single note it still sends shivvers through me..the dead will always live on in their fans. Although I only got a chance to see them live 2 times i still felt the magic. And with the dead it seems as time goes on..I've become more and more addicted (not sure what other word to use) to them. I spend hours each day just listenign to many of the tapes I have and driving to and from work blasting live cds I have...When I lost a couple great friends in the past, lost myself to heroin, and lost the love of my life..the only thing that got me through it was the dead. I see what you guys are talking about, I dont really listen to greatful dead, nor have i seen them in concert, but i know what your talking about. I feel this way about TOOL. Every time i see tool in concert it is like nothing i have ever experienced. Everyone is always tripping at tool concerts. I myself think tool is the best band of all time.

Not to be an ass or anything but tool has nothing compared to the grateful dead, and their scene. Tool is talented. I will give you that..but nothing close..

Tool blows grateful dead out of the water dude. Maynard is way more tripped out than jerry garcia will ever be. And grateful deads drummer is a joke compared to dana carey.

Yes i agree, this is my opinion. I really do apreciate grateful dead, and if it wasnt for greatful dead there wouldnt be trippy bands like tool. So sorry i said anything. I guess the thing is that I never really have listened to greatful dead. I am 19, and when i was a little kid my parents listened to nine inch nails and red hot chilli pepers and newer shit like that. Maybe that has something to do with it.

If you ever decide to give the Dead a try get one of the dick's picks c.d.'s
The thing with the Dead is that there music was best live. Even Jerry say's there studio albums suck compared to there live performances. I do enjoy some off there studio stuff though. The magic of a Dead concert was amazing. All the energy from the crowd would make the music happen. And on those special night's the sky would part and heaven would open up and pour down energy through the music. As for the Dicks Picks cd's there's 27 of them and there all 2-4 cd's long. There live recordings of some of the best Dead concert's in history. Some night when you want to check them out take a couple hundred mikes of acid and lay down and crank up one of these shows. You will be able to see what all the fuss is about.

Listen and i mean no disrespect but your statement is based on only what you know about Tool. Im sure you think that nothing is better than a Tool show but you really don't have a frame of reference by your own admission.
i would be glad to burn you some CD's of some dead shows, but till then please let my thread be.

You make a great point ripple. I will check out some greatful dead shows on video, and i will keep in mind that that would only be a fraction of the experiene, not really seeing them "live" and all. But i will definetly check some of that shit out. And dont worry i will make sure to dose up before veiwing. But if you have never seen tool in concert, or if you dont listen to tool or whatever you also need to check them out. Sorry i made that comment.
