OK, new forum definition, fresh thread.

This is the thread to discuss the forum itself.
Discussion must be held in a respectful way where understanding eachothers POV is the primary goal since that is the norm in this forum.

This is not the place to discuss banned members, WA&F is.

This thread, like the forum, is moderated.

Fair enough. I've already pointed out the particular mod I have trouble with by filling out a support ticket. I urge anyone else who has problems with any of the moderators to do the same.

for what its worth: i feel like the 2 threads have started to find their pace again. life is returning. i am now happy with them again... the forum titles still seem totally nonsensical to me, and i still think trying to draw a clear line between spirituality, religion and mysticism is pointless and impossible... but whatever. it doesnt really make a differance. SO yeah. im happy with stuff.  :thumbup:

If you are willing to respectfully discuss the problem you see, then I feel that ought to be ok (unless you mean another mod, then you need to involve him.)

Things need to find their own pace and that takes time and effort on all sides. The main difference between the two forums in my view lies primarily in the attitude towards the exchange: competitive debate is for S&P and synergistic discussion is for MR&P. The one's fission, the other's fusion: both can be quite a blast if done correctly. :smile:
This requires effort of mods and members alike and like you said: it's slowly getting on wheels.

Once it's on steam the hard modding can relax somewhat too, but like you implied having two S&Ps would be pointless, so let's make it two different flavors :thumbup:

I am really excited about this forum's potential.

Your rules are redundant, and one of 'em's a guideline... not a rule. But I think you've got what you need... PLUS a lot of fat. Which I hope we can at least, discuss, if not cut entirely.

This forum needs a little subjectivity, seems The Creators want it that way, but y'all went overboard, on your first draft.

Let's look at the new rules shall we?

The first sentence is great.

Not needed, here's why:

This forum's Mod's have a history of making POOR SUBJECTIVE judgment calls, which cause public drama. and the Mods ONLY seem to take such action when THEIR OWN feelings are hurt... and, on top of THAT, they are a very sensitive bunch.

I do not trust these three particular people to make such a SUBJECTIVE judgment call.

Besides, a good Mod doesn't need this loophole. I think you three can go without.

You simply can't.

Nobody on The Staff has proven otherwise.

This rule is fine, AND it covers the SAME territory as rule #2... and the sentence I'd strike from rule #1. Keep this one, drop the stuff I suggested. It NICELY outlines the proper amount of SUBJECTIVITY this forum wants... without going' Nazi!

Remember, if a debate happens, JUST MOVE THE THREAD, don't blame people for going where a discussion takes 'em.

Great... but is this really an enforceable rule? It seems more like a guideline... unless you guys wish to ban someone for FAILING TO NOTIFY YOU to DO YOUR JOBS.

I'd also strike the PUBLIC Mod bias towards He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, or ANYONE else. It is bad style, guys. A poor way to start a forum.

A LITTLE subjectivity goes a long way. Look at The Pub.

Right now, ALL your rules (minus the one which should be a guideline) are subjective. That is VERY HARD for the public to follow. The new rules need to be specified and shortened.

Oh, and, be sure to follow your OWN rules this time.

As they stand now, they'd be almost impossible to follow, even for YOU MODS... save for the fact you all get to make the subjective decisions, yourself... and therefore can choose to see no error in your own ways. While, hypothetically, permabanning a long time member, for breaking no visible rule.

It ALMOST seems like THAT is the only reason you WROTE the new rules... so you'd have a rulebook which allowed the Mods to CHOOSE who is a SAINT and WHO is a SINNER, even if the public can't make such a distinction out loud, without breaking 3 forum rules, at the SAME TIME! :smirk:

redundant... redundant... redundant...

Those new rules give the wrong combination of minds, TOO MUCH POWER.

Consider THIS particular post... my pressing of the Notify Mod button.

I really think you've got the rules you need, and a LOT or redundancy... which only serves you three... and not the community you all hope to build.

A bit more work is required to prevent the drama, which caused this split, from happening again. I think you are heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

Seriously. I find it deeply unsettling to see what kinds of posts certain mods consider to be "anti-spiritual." Apparently, it is unspiritual to wish to live without delusions.

'cause otherwise, why do i have http://www.shroomery.org/index.html as my main page?  :tongue:

Which is shorter? :wink:  Oh look theres other forums click me :smile:  I was looking around and noticed that the bottom of  the main index page it says there are no birthdays today. Yet if you click on the  calendar link and then on  January 23 2004 it shows that it is Grovesk8ters Bday.

Just thought it was courious and perhaps an error.Anno posted how to edit the host file at www.*************.org but the post was promptly deleted by an admin.

I can only remember how to edit the file in XP, perhaps Anno or someone else can help with the other operating systems.

In Windows XP go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and then open notepad. Drag and drop the hosts file into notepad and you should see something like this:

Add to the bottom line of text 69.28.174.165 www.shroomery.org and click save.

Access the shroomery by the following link: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/I fixed this, before when I typed in: www.shroomery.org/forums
i would get to the main page where I wasn't logged in... but if I clicked on any link, I would be logged in... quite annoying.

The problem was that /index.php was redirecting to: ubbthreads.php instead of http://www.shroomery.org/forums/
so my browser for some reason went to:
http://shroomery.org/forums/ instead of www.shroomery...

First off, that thread was closed prior to the revised definitions for either of the related two forums.

More importantly, the thread in question is erroneously directed for this forum. It's primary purpose is to state that "Christ would love [this] forum [because of its] unquenching search for truth".. when in effect, this forum is NOT designed to seek out ultimate truths, but for the open expression of personal truths. Thus, if his thread were posted in the Philosophy & Spirituality forum, it would have made a helluva lot more sense. In this forum, as a result of its invalidity and Swami's history of attempting to disprove other's arguments and ideals, it could be construed as an attempt to mock this forum - which is something that will not be tolerated.

Once again: This forum is FOR the free expression of personal thoughts, ideals, and ideas. This forum is NOT for questioning any of these thoughts, ideals, or ideas. If you would like to have your ideas subjected to peer review and potential criticism, you should be posting in the Philosophy & Spirituality forum, not here.

In no way do I intend on splitting hairs, but for some people spirituality means the search for ultimate truths and that is their personal spiritual path. Of course the existence of an ultimate truth is debatable, but for those who believe in it, it would seem that they should be able to discuss it here as long as they are not calling anyone else's views invalid in the threads which they make to discuss it.

To attempt to subjectively define what does and does not constitute spirituality is impossible and unworkable, not to mention absurd IMHO, and a far better approach would be to simply make sure that this forum's posters use the utmost respect to other posters whenever posting, and that the challenging or belittling of beliefs is not welcome.

Everyone's spirituality is different, because we are all on different paths. The locking of Swami's thread might in fact constitute the invalidation of his chosen spiritual path, as he sees it. UNLESS he made the thread to mock the forum, but again IMHO simply stating that Christ would love the forum is a thought provoking post, at least it was for me, and did not seem like it contained enough prima facie evidence of being a mockery to be considered one.

In other words, you can't just look at anything Swami posts and call it a mockery because it was he who posted it can you? If so, you might as well just ban him outright from participating.

All of this I have said has been said in a respectful tone, but I thought it might be useful to you to point out these things which seem to me to be inconsistencies.
