Population growth must at least slow, but this will not happen without government regulations concerning procreation...but do we want our freedom impinged on in such a basic way. People should be conscientious about the number of children they bear. My children were unplanned so I understand how that goes. Overpopulation often stimulates the evolution of new diseases in a population...nature's attempt at control. We don't get a choice when that occurs...and it is happening.

I don't favor govt control. Although its lower on my list than many of our freedoms that they have already legislated away. The problem as I see it is that people are encouraged to procreate without any real understanding of what that means. How could they be a parent that could raise healthy loving humans? I don't see people in mass being responsible. I often think that they see no alternatives in life other than living out the cultural dream. There is more as you know. Yet many don't see anything else life could be about.

Of course I know this is a minority view. I let go of a "solution" to the human flood, other than the one nature can provide, as you mentioned. As Mr. Natural sez, "twas ever thus".  :mushroom2:

"The problem as I see it is that people are encouraged to procreate without any real understanding of what that means."

That is what I did. All I knew about parents then was that they tried to control what you did...and I had spent years learning ways around that. When my wife was 18 she would say "I want a baby" in much the same way a child would say "I want a puppy". Then here I was a parent....WTF??? I did however take an interest in the job, and I have since taken delight in finding out what kind of twisted freaks I could make them...but in spite of this they turned out well. The level of responsibility my kids show is way above what I demonstrated as a kid. They actually like school and make good grades, and have actual morals. So, some of what you said about not understanding what it takes to be parents is true, but there are still people who take the job seriously.

Of course. But unfortunately or not, they are a minority. Like you some work it out after a bad start. Until this point in my life, I would have been most destructive to children. I am working and learning by helping in some small way to raise my partners children. I am learning how to repair some of my childhood in this process. Just by loving them.
