Hydrogen is the way to go, but you can think of hybrid technologies:

Imagine a plastic tub of conductive water. In this tub you have a huge pile of aluminium-metal "macaroni". They all lie in a heap so one connection makes it into a huge electrode. (anode)
Now you push a button and a latticework of copper wire goes into the water. Immediately an electrogalvanic reaction takes place, turning it into a high power battery:

Al + 3 H2O --> Al(OH)3 + 1 1/2 H2 + 3 electrons

So what do you get? You immediately get electric energy for your car of vast amperage (amperes go by the Faraday, which is electroncount, and 9gr + 18gr = 27gr of reaction mixture delivers one Faraday (mole) of electrons

But! It also delivers pure hydrogen gas which can be used for your car fuelcell to produce additional electrical energy.
So you get a Faraday of electrical power from 12.5gr of reaction mix.
True, its 5.5x less efficient than gasoline (wt/wt) as for Faradays but all Faradays are in a useful form and not disappated as heat!

Why is this promising? Because your car contains NO FUELS until you engage the engine, and even then it contains only the fuel it is using at the time. There is no flame/explosion/chemical hazard involved.

And at the fuel station you connect a pump that sucks out the aluminium hydroxide sludge and replaces it with water/aluminium "macaroni" as fast as it takes to ordinarily pump gas.

And now the cool part: The sludge goes to the plant, where they use clean energy to reconstitute it to aluminium and water (simply by zapping a low volt/high amp current through it) And presto: you've got a hydrogen car that can accellerate sharply thanks to the galvanic reaction and gets it fortified by the fuel cell.

If you are not afraid of a firehazard you can use Aluminium hydride like so:

2 AlH3 + 3 H2O ---> Al2O3 + 9 H2 + 6 electrons  (6.3gr/Faraday: real winner!)

LOL I studied up on Primary Energy ok?  :smirk:

There is a lot in your posts i dont get, and the same goes for mine, and im tired of trying to think about it. I know there is a lot that companies refuse to research because they dont want to lose their investments, and i know, powerful leaders in government arent going to forfiet nice kickbacks from interested business owners.

What i dont understand, is why there is a un-willingness to adopt a stance that would push forth hydrogen powered vehicles. With such good technology, and the potential for high returns on investments. If you say electrolysis is so easy, and the fuel cell is "perfected", there is no massive market surge to produce an integrated fuel cell with a car. Oh well, one day theyll get it, and theyll break their shit, or get broken.

Oh, And you didnt ask me why i didnt have a fuel cell, you asked me why i didnt have a hydrogen powered car. I told you they are not MASS PRODUCED, or AFFORDABLE. And i gave you my reasons, and you responded with an hydrogen unit, unadapted for a car.

did you think about this: if global temperatures goes up 4-6 Celsius there will be impossible to grow mush on room temperatures, and you would have to buy expensive AC  maybe this will make us take action

Are they sure that it will continue to melt at the same rate? It seems to me like it would reach a certain critical point before it ever got all the way to the North Pole, but then again, I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject. In any case, if global warming continues, I may have to invest in Canadian agriculture.

Interesting: in holland the lowest gradesof salad oil are already cheaper in supermarkets than (heavily taxed) diesel fuel is.

So basically you could alter your diesel engine and everybody on the sidewalk goes "where are the french fries?!" when you drive by

Do NOT take my word on it because all cars differ but its said that you can already replace 5-10% of your gasoline with veggie oil. If it doesnt your engine is fucked so thoroughly websearch it before doing anything rash.

Yes, I did websearch and was so impressed ! Almost every 'older' diesel engine can run with up to 90% of salad-oil without changes of the engine or fuel-tubes. Problems mostly arise with the newer turbos or injection-types. The onliest problem is the lower viscosity and the little more dirt in it. The energy output is the same ! (strange coincidence that modern engines won't run on salad-oil anymore, ha)
Here in Germany, salad oil is almost 40 % cheaper, and I can support my local farmers instead of some mega rich arab oil barons. That, and the fact that these are regrowing resources are my motivations.
But government is a fast satan, also here. Totally ill-minded, they decide, that from 2007 here, salad-oil which is used for engines, is declared as mineral-oil, so taxes will rise. That's so fucking crazy, but the benefits for the farmers and for nature will stay...

As population grows and need for salad oil grows, the same problems will arise. Increased use of pesticides and nitrogen fertilizers. Runoff into streams ect. Just slows down the inevitable IMO.

But at least you do not pump some additional co2 from the undergroung into the atmosphere. The co2-level will not rise from this source.
The methods of agriculture are another subject, worth debating.

The debate goes on while the ship sinks. If you want to save something important. Quit having babies. As long as the population continues at this growth rate, we may not be able to save much.

I don't see populationgrowth as a risk yet. I am not on this train.
Nobody should have to starve at these days.
We are destroying tons of food, while on the other side of the planet millions of people die of famine.
I think, earth can support much more people, if we will learn to manage our resources more responsibly.
Overpopulation is overestimated to keep you controlled.

Edit: Perhaps in 500 years of a weathy grow, we could get problems...but there is no wealthy grow. And if there would be, in 500 years we would also be ready to settle on other planets. That forever solves the population-problem.

Maybe you're right. Maybe we can steal all the habitat that once belonged to the diversity of life on this planet and just have rows of houses and farmland and a few plants and animals that we can profit from.

I am glad I grew up when I did. I don't want to see the world you describe. It's all yours. Enjoy. :mushroom2:

Aehm, I think there is a big misunderstanding. I never want to steal anyones habitat, for sure. That's why I talk of responsible use of resources.
Our science is already so far developed, that if not misused all the time, it could help to find a place for humans AND nature, in ALL facets of coexistence until we could be ready to leave this planet in cause of overpopulation.
The keeping of untouched, bewildered nature is one of my prime sorrow, that it will keep. It's totally necessary for the continued existence of humans, even on far out planets. We have to learn so much more from nature still, before it will be destroyed more and more.
BUT, there are some crazy leader-folks outside, who want to control human kind, and every mean is right to them. They care a fuck on environment or humans, that I wanted to make obvious by my posts.
Everyone should have a good possibility for a future. Thats for every individuum. May it be humans, animals, plants or whatsoever...
And humans have to share more respect to others.
Why should all be cemented by habitats ?
Build under the earth, while leading sunlight into those habitats. Or build more high. Or build more in connection with nature. Again villages at the sides of mountain rocks ? Villages in the trees ? Villages under water ? Villages in desert ?
The place should not be the problem...

edit: So if we need so much place for regrowing energy-sources like plant oil, for a growing population, we shoul concentrate on fast growing plants....like hemp, of course, who bind much co2 in a short time. The fibres are a very good resource, too

Population growth must at least slow, but this will not happen without government regulations concerning procreation...but do we want our freedom impinged on in such a basic way. People should be conscientious about the number of children they bear. My children were unplanned so I understand how that goes. Overpopulation often stimulates the evolution of new diseases in a population...nature's attempt at control. We don't get a choice when that occurs...and it is happening.

--------------------
"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

I never said we would need more population. But we also need no 'artificial' control of birth or population, I think.
It's better to help those women, families, societies in need.
I know I am an utopist by this, but I really think, that leaving this planet could solve the overpopulation-problem.

The principle of bearing new live or keeping existing one, for me, is too sacred and complex, so that I would desire to leave this to nature for decision.
