blaiming people for not having feelings
    #4241122 - 05/31/05 07:30 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

often people say: you don't have any feelings, you are a monster

As if it is a duty of every human being to push its emotionality.
Even if it can be done, perhapse there are some who can't feel emotions whatsoever

what is so noble about being emotional?

It's cool not to have feelings. That way you're not attached to anything or anyone, and everyone wants a piece of something thats not theirs.

I think stoicism is a good thing.

i think people can be out of touch with their own feelings
a stoical response or detachment from those feelings can be good, other times it can be bad.
if i'm mad at someone and can't do anything about it, maybe "detachment" is good then.
if i'm sad because i miss someone, and i can call them and feel better, acting on it is good then.

an emotion is not that different from a rash, It is a reaction to something. So why push it? If there is no need, there is nothing to be satisfied, and there is less motion and more room for other, more non-emotional motion

a person can be out of touch with their own feelings if they have a feeling then bury it. then if you ask them do you feel something, they'll say no even though they do.

usually people don't have feelings about X or Y in the first place if they're disconnected from it.
i've had the experience of seeing a movie and someone asking me what i thought of it and i said, 'nothing really' and they got pissed; but honestly i was disconnecting myself from it because i didn't want to tell them i didn't like it. which is kind of bullshit.

but what if you had a brain that couldn't produce emotions? would you be less human?

I say, if you keep you feelings confined to your genital region, those are all the feelings you need.

Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
Trying to forget my feelings of love.

Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl;
You'll never come again.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.

Feelings, feelings
Like I've never lost you
And feelings like I've never
Have you again in my heart.

Feelings, for all my life I'll feel it.
I wish I've never met you, girl;
You'll never come again.

Feelings, feelings like I've
Never lost you
And feelings like I've never have you
Again in my life.

Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
Wo-o-o, feelings again in my arms.
Feelings...

Actually, it does. Feelings are just there to further our reproduction. We'd feel remorse if we killed off our entire family and ate our children, or we'd feel good if we raised healthy, intelligent offspring. Feelings are just the reflection of stability necessary for a mass human society and for continued survival (or at least they used to be).

Nowadays though? I don't think feelings are necessary, as long as you can deceive people well enough you'll still be able to reproduce all you want, so we may be moving towards a species of sociopaths. There is nothing noble about being emotional, but it's a more primitive type of human and has helped us survive in the past.

feelings are necessary to thought. all thought is feelings. everyone you think has a meaning for you.
this is feelings in a larger sense that includes the inner world of the sociopath.

There is nothing noble about being emotional

Maybe not, but I'd never want to give up the ability to love deeply, or be moved to tears by great music, or laugh until I fall off my chair at a great joke...  :sun:

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

feeling compassion for a person without emottional sensitivity may lead to something therapeutic for them

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.
