So what makes your statment, one without any proof, any more valid than someone saying:

"Believe it! Something big will happen in 2012!"

I was not writing about "nothing" as though it were nothing but I am writing about T. Mckenna's theories and the asnine theories about the Mayan calendar written by people who have no merit whatsoever about Mesoamerican/South American indigeneous cultures and their religions/calendar systems/etc...

The Mayan's were relatively briliant in terms of astronomy.

They devised an accurate calendar, knew of cosmology, described various celestial phenomena. Quetzcoatl is believed to be a description of Venus by some (Velikovsky among various others)...

The point of the matter is... I tend to give it a little bit more notice then I do other predictions... the Mayan's are all dead. They aren't in anyway attempting to get everyone to sell their possesions in order to be free for when god picks them up, I just don't see a reason for this manipulation beyond what their calendar told them.

Perhaps it was used to determine when an object passes by us in space (say an asteroid or something) after the event, their calendar would be obsolete as it would offset/redirect our planet's orbit.

Not saying that is the reason, but I'd put some stock into what they predicted as their is some merit to what they suggest.

A decent general overview, read outside the fluff associated with their beliefs.

I am just referring to the fact that electrons revolves around a nucleus, the moon revolves around Earth, planets revolve around the sun, suns revolve around the galaxy, and galaxies revolve around each other. The Mayans, with their very advanced astronomy, determined that 2012 would be the time when our galaxy was the closest in a very long time to the center of our galaxy. Everything is a cycle.
