because without it, nothing would make sense.

for example; i could say "i trust in logic because i don't". but then that wouldn't make any sense. why not? because its an illogical statement.

without logic, anything and everything can be true and untrue simultaneously, which would make even the simplest discussions completely pointless and absurd.

And simultaneously, even the simplest discussions would be made to be completely meaningful and profound.

hey, reality is absurd: Who can beg to differ?

Logic can only be backed up by more logic - hence it has no existence without itself - its like math - its outside the universe, inside our heads, fiction, imagination.

Thats right, imagination created logic.

.
.
PEACE....  :peace:
One simple word is just that, a simple word of five letters....
.
Definition gives it "logical" meaning to the reallity we know, yet still simple in it's relative nature of reality as we perceive it....
.
Now, put that very word into action as a REALLITY - THEN you may have something PROFOUND to talk about in a meaningful conversation....!
Yet, the conversation could be just as simple and meaningless in it's profoundness in relative meaning....
Perception is a bitch...!
.
"Peace" in the world would be a very good start in realization....  Well, that would be my perception of a meaningful reality....
.
Question:
Would it even be "Logical" to have a "perception" at all....?    HHhhhmmmm....
.
Answer:
THAT would (perhaps) obviously be a matter of YOUR relative perception of a "logical reallity"....
How would one really know without actually being GOD....?
.
Does it make it a "reallity" just because it is "realized", perhaps even by all....?
.
.
So, Reality is Absurd, and Perception is a Bitch....  Sounds Logical to me in realization...!
.
Slaphappy, I would LOVE YOU for who YOU are, weather you were a GOD, or not....   :peace:
(just please don't break my heart....)

I hate it when people bring up "nothing" to a conversation like its an actuality.

And, phantomcat, you're a cool cat!

because without it [logic], nothing would make sense.

that's true in a way... er, what I mean is, it would be true if you said "because without it, nothing would be logical."

Seems to me like the more one learns about the Universe, or Reality or whatever you wanna call it, the less logical it begins to get. For example, light is both a wave and a particle, but never both at the same time.. WTF? That's a paradox, right? Or maybe not exactly... either way it doesn't exactly conform to the rigours of logic. But that doesn't matter because it's still true and you can sorta grok it.

slaphappy: Logic can only be backed up by more logic - hence it has no existence without itself - its like math - its outside the universe, inside our heads, fiction, imagination.

yeah, what I'm saying is exactly that, only I'm doing it less gracefully. (also I would say that logic---and math---exist inside the universe to the same extent that our heads do.) Logic is based on the assumption that logic is logical, or something. Or simply that logic is, you know, 'good' or 'better than not-logic'. And in practical applications it is very successful at things like predictions, which are important if you want to be 'getting things accomplished', which we generally agree is, you know, 'good'.

It's true that logic has its place, but so does lack thereof, nonlogic, or alogic (is that a word yet?). The universe is everything, not just logical.

yeah, same thing.

no, its not. waves and particles are both constructs we have created to help us describe the universe. light is neither a particle or a wave, but it does exhibit both particle-like and wave-like behaviour depending on the situation. we model light as a particle or wave so we can do mathematical calculations with it.

modern theoretical physics would suggest that light, and everything else, is made of something called strings. a string is a very small 10-dimensional object. the way in which a string vibrates in those 10 dimenstions determines its properties. a photon (light) string would vibrate in a different way to an electron string, for example.

because of the limitations of our current technology, we cannot actually see or detect strings in any way. to us, these strings appear as waves in some situations, and as particles in others. however, the idea of strings makes theoretical sense, and one day it is hoped we will gain experimental evidence of them.

it seems to me like the more we study the universe, the more logical it gets. a few thousand years ago, humans didn't understand much about the universe. that's why ancient civilisations were full of superstition. they depended on the supernatural to explain how things worked, and the supernatural by definition is illogical. now, we can explain a lot of things with simple physical 'laws', which are very logical.

logic is a system of reasoning. you would be right to say "you can't prove that logic is correct", but that itself is a logical deduction.

lets say that for the purposes of this discussion, we aren't going to use logic, because logic isn't necessarily correct. with that in mind, you should agree with the following:

both our ideas about souls, blueprints, taoists legends, etcetera, while at conflict with eachother, are also completely in agreement with eachother. we are both absolutely correct and incorrect at the same time.

if you agree with that, then i guess this debate or whatever is over.

Why do so many tripers conjure up immaterial explanations for entirely material phenomena??! Souls? Consciousness? Huh? All of this can and has been explained by science... heck, I don't even believe in consciousness and I definitely don't consider it an immaterial phenomenon!

Read "Consciousness Explained" by Daniel C. Dennett... read anything! Anythings besides Leary or McKenna or other New Age speculation... read hard, factual science and get over your pointless musings on existence...
